Position Summary
Alion Science and Technology Corporation is seeking an Explosives Safety Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) support to a major DoD Agency located in Albuquerque, NM at Kirtland AFB for operational test events. Significant travel (~50%) to the White Sands Missile Range, NM and the Nevada National Security Site, NV as well as to Welcome (Blossom Point Field test Facility), MD, Dugway Proving Grounds, UT, the National Capital Region (NCR), and San Antonio, TX may be required.
Responsibilities:
- Support customer’s explosives safety managers in ensuring safety and compliance programs for the storage, handling, and transportation of test explosives.
- Provide oversight of safety and compliance of explosive operations conducted during test operations, ensuring the safety of personnel, material, and environmental resources.
- As subject matter expert, support planning and coordination of all phases of explosives recovery operations for weapons and explosives malfunctions to include contact with national level agency, service, and foreign country program managers.
- Support post-test hazard abatement for structural damage, hazardous atmospheres, unexploded ordnance and explosives, and other hazards resulting from test operations.
- Enter permit required confined spaces and don up to Level A personal protective equipment.
- Coordinate and communicate with test team members on explosive safety issues.
- Serve as a Safety Officer assigned to explosive testing work.
Education and Experience:
- Must be a graduate of Department of Defense Joint Service EOD Training Program.
- Bachelor’s degree in physical science or related fields of study and a minimum of 3 years’ experience working directly with high explosives in a test and evaluation (T&E) environment is desired.
- Experience in utilizing high explosives in test events desired.
- Required Certifications/Training (must already have):
Munitions Certification training/certification as required for test locations.
OSHA 511, 510 course.
- Maintains necessary training to preserve proficiency in job related qualifications i.e., CPR, First Aid, HAZWOPER and Permit Required Confined Space.
- US Citizenship is required: Must have active/current Top Secret (TS) with ability to obtain TS/SCI.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in high explosives testing.
- Possess experience performing risk assessments, hazard analysis, hazard mitigation, hazardous materials program management and awareness.
- Possess working knowledge with Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulatory requirements.
- Effective organization level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- MS Office proficiency and ability to work in an individual and team environment.
