Responsibilities/Qualification

 

Full-Stack Software Engineer (DRMS)

The Digital Radio Management System (DRMS) Developer is responsible for the life-cycle software engineering of an enterprise radio management system to allow real world radios to integrate with distributed simulations and VoIP phones using a combination of protocols including DIS, HLA and RTP used in the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE).  NCTE Software Engineering provides modeling and simulation application development, live, virtual and constructive systems integration support and in-service engineering support to US Fleet Forces (USFF) and the Number Fleets. 

Duties and Responsibilities
Primary development is done on-site with Red Hat Linux 6/7 platforms using Eclipse and/or IntelliJ IDEs to write Java and JavaScript (Sencha, ExtJS) with Shell scripting to help automate tasks and query information and Git as the primary revision control system. Under direct supervision, this developer is required to: 

  • Work with a team of developers and subject matter experts to develop, enhance, integrate, and support DRMS applications. 
  • Assist in the writing and/or presentation of briefings (reports on analyses, findings, and project progress), project or task plans, system specification manuals, technical reports and user manuals.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical proposals.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline 
  • 2 to 4 years of directly related experience developing and maintaining software.
  • Security+ and Linux+ certification will be required if the candidate does not have them already.
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 7 years applicable work experience. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • U.S. Citizen able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
  • Experience with Java design and development
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to the full software stack, including database and web development
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work in an Agile team environment

Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Experience with development in a Linux/Unix environment
  • Experience with distributed web architectures
  • Security+ and Linux+
  • Experience with JUnit unit testing framework and Java debugging tools

Favorable Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience with JavaScript development, Apache ActiveMQ, JUnit, Jenkins, SonarQube, Eclipse, Intelllij, SVN, GIT, C/C++, Modeling and Simulation, C4I Systems, Gradle or Maven build systems, HLA and DIS protocols, Shell Scripting, System interface development
