Position Summary

Alion Science and Technology Corporation is seeking a High Explosives Instrumentation Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) support to a major DoD Agency located in Albuquerque, NM at Kirtland AFB for operational test events. Some travel (<25%) to the White Sands Missile Range, NM and the Nevada National Security Site, NV may be required.


  • Independently develop, manage, and implement instrumentation plans and methodologies to meet measurement objectives to support customer testing.
  • Conduct research, development, and integration efforts for customer to maintain currency in state-of-the-art and emerging/developmental data acquisition systems and sensor technologies across the CWMD testing spectrum to ensure maximum effectiveness and to fill voids in testing capabilities.
  • Develop and implement rigorous processes to ensure new sensor and data acquisition technologies are properly investigated and validated prior to introduction into the customer inventory. 
  • Develop test plans and methodologies to perform validation and verification testing of existing and emerging measurement diagnostic technologies and systems.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Data Sciences, or Instrumentation related fields of study and a minimum of 3 years’ experience working directly with instrumentation in a test and evaluation (T&E) environment is desired.
  • A High School degree and at least 7 years’ related experience is acceptable as an alternative.
  • US Citizenship.US Citizenship is required: Must have active/current Top Secret (TS) with ability to obtain TS/SCI.
  • Experience in instrumenting High Explosives test events desired.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in high explosives instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of and hands-on field experience with electrical and instrumentation devices (e.g., temperature and pressure gauges, accelerometers, thermal cameras, high speed cameras, etc.).
  • Knowledge of sensor integration, cable running, connectors, and data recording/logging devices.
  • Ability to select appropriate sensor sensitivities based on expected input signals in multiple signal domains.
  • Effective organization level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • MS Office proficiency and ability to work in an individual and team environment..
