Job Description

The System Security Engineer’s primary function is working within cyber programs supporting Department of Defense (DoD) agencies, such as HQ Air Force, Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and Military Compartments efforts. The position will provide day-to-day support for Unclassified, Collateral and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) activities.  The level of effort associated with this work role is one CME at San Antonio TX.

Provides technical and programmatic Information Assurance Services to internal and external customers in support of network and information security systems.  Designs, develops and implements security requirements within an organization¿s business processes.  Prepares documentation from information obtained from customer using accepted guidelines such as DITSCAP (DoD Information Technology Security Certification and Accreditation Process).  Prepares Security Test and Evaluation plans.  Provides certification and accreditation support in the development of security and contingency plans and conducts complex risk and vulnerability assessments.  Analyzes policies and procedures against Federal laws and regulations and provides recommendations for closing gaps.  Develops and completes system security plans and contingency plans.  Recommends system enhancements to improve security deficiencies.  Develops, tests and integrates computer and network security tools. Secures system configurations and installs security tools, scans systems in order to determine compliancy and report results and evaluates products and various aspects of system administration. Conducts security program audits and develops solutions to lessen identified risks.  Develops strategies to comply with privacy, risk management, and e-authentication requirements.  Provides information assurance support for the development and implementation of security architectures to meet new and evolving security requirements.  Evaluates, develops and enhances security requirements, policy and tools.  Provides assistance in computer incident investigations.  Performs vulnerability assessments including development of risk mitigation strategies.  Requires a Bachelors degree and eight to ten years of related experience performing a wide variety of information assurance and information systems security engineering duties, to include the certification and accreditation of information systems using DIACAP (formerly DITSCAP), NIACAP, NIST SP 800-37, and/or DCID 6/3 frameworks.

Performance shall include:

  • Perform oversight of the development, implementation and evaluation of information system security program policy; special emphasis placed upon integration of existing network infrastructures
  • Support a team of System Security Engineers (SSE) and Certification and Accreditation Analysts responsible for ensuring the customers national and international security interests are protected as support equipment are designed and tested
  • Support customer community IA working groups, participate in SSE IPT reviews
  • Provides expert level consultation and technical services on all aspects of Information Security
  • Review SSE related designs and provides security compliance recommendations
  • Develop and provide IA risk management recommendations to the customer
  • Provide SSE support for Mission and Training systems design and development
  • Assist with development and maintenance of the Program Protection Plan
  • Assist with site activation activities and design reviews
  • Represent the customer in various SSE related working groups, advisory groups, and advisory council meetings

Experience:

  • 5 - 7 years related experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent experience (4 years)

Certifications:

  • Must meet position and certification requirements outlined in DoD Directive 8570.01-M for Information Assurance Technician Level 2 within 6 months of the date of hire

Security Clearance:

  • Current Top Secret Clearance with SCI Eligibility
  • Willingness to submit to a Counterintelligence polygraph

Other Requirements:

  • Must be familiar with security policy/manuals and the appropriate DCIDs/JAFANs and other guiding policy documents
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and effectively interact with numerous DOD, military/civilian personnel and industry partners
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Possess a high degree of originality, creativity, initiative requiring minimal supervision

Requires travel within the organizational geographic Area of Responsibility (AOR) (note - could be extensive, and will include both air and ground transportation)
