Responsibilities/Qualification

Position Summary:

The NCTE installation engineer is responsible for assisting in the installation of NCTE equipment at host sites throughout the United States and selected international locations, according to pre-determined configurations and plans. The installation engineer will be required to interpret installation design plans (CAD drawings), and implement the installation according to those plans, making local modifications where required, appropriate and directed by the Team Leader. Additionally, the Installation engineer will ensure that NCTE Installations are completed in a timely, consistent, high quality, and professional manner. This is a hands-on position; the Installation engineer is expected to work alongside the installation team leader to complete all tasking on time, and to take a primary role in terminating fiber optic and CAT 6 cable, assisting in the installation and relocation of equipment, and in minor configuration tasks. This position will also fulfill a logistics role within the NCTE installation organization managing equipment inventories, movement, and maintenance. Finally, the Installation engineer must ensure that all installations are completed in accordance with relevant Navy instructions and security directives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develop and submit travel plans and requests to the team leader, according to NSWC/NCTE policy.
2. At times, travel independently for cable and cable management installations.
3. Conduct NCTE Installations, to include rack, network, and computer equipment installation, power connection, and cable fabrication, as assigned by the installation Team Leader.
4. Assist in conducting System Operational Verification Testing (SOVT) and quality control testing for completed installations.
5. Assist in the return shipment of retrograde NCTE Equipment and tools to NCAMS, RHR or other warehouse, in collaboration with NCTE Logisticians.
6. Assist in revising/redlining Installation Design Plan drawings to reflect minor changes made during actual construction (i.e., provide as-built information to NCTE Draftsman).
7. Assist with the logistics aspects of NCTE Installations, to include management, maintenance, and movement of NCTE Toolset and equipment
8. As required, perform task associated with equipment inventory and management within the larger NCTE Enterprise.

Education and Experience:

1. Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience, in basic computer installation, logistics, supply management or similar, relevant field.
2. Experience with conducting IT system installations in classified environments
3. Experience with Inventory, logistics, and shipping in a DOD Environment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

1. Ability to read, understand, and implement IT system installations based upon engineering level installation design plan drawings.
2. An understanding of electrical and HVAC concepts, specifically related to systems required to support IT installations. This includes the concepts of electrical grounding, heat/power conversion, and IT System cooling principles and best practices.
3. Understanding of supply management and logistics concepts
4. Basic knowledge of US Government Tempest regulations
5. Basic knowledge of SECNAV INST M5510.36
6. Familiarity with SPAWAR Shore Installation Process Handbook.
7. Ability to lift 30 pounds, and work on ladders.
8. Ability to spend significant portions of the year in a travel status, away from home base.

Must be a US Citizen, and hold a Secret security clearance to begin employment.
