Position Summary

The Instructional Developer/Technical Trainer develops complex technical courses to meet training needs and delivers to end-users.


  • Consults with customer or management on most appropriate methodology to transfer knowledge to the end-user. Conducts training needs assessment, vendor selection and evaluation of training programs making changes to the curriculum and course content as appropriate. Maintains up to date technical resource library.
  • Works closely with customers and subject matter experts to determine and meet end-user requirements.
  • Designs and develops technical instruction; developing complex courses.
  • Develops outlines, objectives, graphics, course content, exercises, tests and documentation.
  • Conducts in¿depth research on technical concepts to incorporate into course content.
  • Presents material visually and through multimedia programs.
  • Maintains records of training activities, participant progress, and program effectiveness.
  • Interfaces with project leaders, subject matter experts, clients, instructional designers, graphic designers, and the application team to ensure technical accuracy of instructional content.
  • Conducts research into new training, education, and multimedia technologies.
  • Provides guidance to less experienced Instructional Developers/Technical Trainers.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree and  5-7 years of relevant experience. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience.  Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Must have the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Wide degree of creativity and self-directed work is required.  
  • Strong editing skills; attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
  • A Top Secret clearance is required for this position.
