Position Summary

Under general supervision, supports NAVSEA as Prop and Lift On-Site Representative (OSR), required for the sustainment of landing craft at Naval Beach Unit (NBU) 7) in Sasebo, Japan.

Duties and Responsibilities          

  • Support PMS377 and NBU 7 with propeller and lift fan maintenance requirements to meet mission goals and objectives for forward deployed Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC).
  • Complete training requirements, on-the-job-training (OJT), and any requisite certifications in order to hold the qualifications necessary to support propeller and lift fan system maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist sailors with repair parts identification for all propeller and lift fan systems to support maintenance and repair requirements.
  • Train and assist with the removal of propeller oil transfer tubes, carbon seals, and transfer housings.
  • Train and assist with removal and installation of craft propellers.
  • Train and assist with removal, build-up and installation of propeller center support shafts and bearing cartridges.
  • Train and assist with the build-up and static balance of new propellers.
  • Train and assist with the removal of propeller shafts, spinners, and propeller shaft covers.
  • Support Alteration Installation Teams with Propeller Control Module (PCM) refurbishments, propeller removals, and propeller installations at NBU 7.
  • Coordinate with In-Service Engineering Agents (ISEAs) OSRs, Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) and Boston Planning Yard OSRs for technical documentation discrepancy resolution as required.
  • Monitor propeller hub hours in the Government’s Weblog database to support up-to-date information for PMS377 and NBU 7 data inquiries and future maintenance requirements.
  • Train and assist with repairs of propeller blades to include all urethane patch work and edge guard replacements. 
  • Train and assist with the removal and replacement of lift fan blades.
  • Train and assist with light structural repair work to support LCAC rudders.
  • Train and assist with light structural repairs to crafts shrouds and stators.
  • Provide status updates during weekly production and maintenance meetings.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree plus 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience.  Degree must be in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.

Educational requirements will be adjusted or waived for more than 7 years of applicable work experience supporting the United States Navy with maintenance and repairs.  

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Previous experience with Navy repair and maintenance experience. This experience on watercraft is highly desired.
  • Experience conducting refurbishment of shipboard and craft material a plus.
  • Ability to work alongside a team with diverse technical skillsets to produce timely responses which meet demanding deadlines.
  • Knowledge of mechanical principles, methods, and repair techniques.
  • Energetic, self-starter with minimal need for supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in industrial environment and adhere to all safety requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must qualify as a crane operator under the Navy Crane Program within 4 months of assuming job position.
  • Must qualify using the Automatic Tracking and Balancing System (ATABS) propeller and lift balancing equipment to support LCAC pre-deployment and post availability requirements.
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs to support job requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A SECRET security clearance will be required after employment. Active Secret clearance is a plus.
  • An active US Passport is required.
