Job Description

Commonwealth Technology, Inc, (CTI) a division of Alion Science and Technology, is an engineering services firm with diverse in-house manufacturing capabilities for prototype and low volume production.

The candidate for the Lead Electronics Technician position will lead and perform electronics assembly, testing, troubleshooting and repairs on a number of projects and products in developmental stages ranging from early prototype to highly controlled production of mature products.  This is a working leader position.  The ideal candidate will have leadership/management experience, a broad skill set and be capable of performing a wide range of tasks such as: 

  • Plan assembly of products by the electronics team based on completed designs, producing assembly Instructions and assigning work to others and himself.  Coordinates with the Technician Manager.
  • Provide design and manufacturability feedback to design engineers.
  • Fabricate, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify electronic developmental and production products, parts, components, and systems according to engineering instructions.
  • Assemble complex electronics products using PCB assembly machines and by hand tools, using a microscope, to achieve precise tolerances
  • Perform routine operational tests and fault isolation to ensure conformance with design specifications.  Diagnose and isolates failures and makes necessary repairs.
  • Perform Wire Harness manufacturing to IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards.  Setup, Operation and Maintenance of automated wire harness assembly equipment.
  • Soldering per IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 for all types of solder joints
  • Sourcing and acquisition of commercially available items that meet engineering specifications
  • Leads and directs the work of others.
  • Occasional Logistical support including transportation coordination, pickup and delivery service
  • Creativity and latitude in performing duties is required.  Compliance with safety and quality policies and procedures is required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • US Citizenship
  • Secret Clearance
  • 15+ years of experience 
  • Associates Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training or work experience.
  • 1+ years of experience leading others in this field
  • Ability to read and utilize electronics manufacturing documentation correctly
  • Demonstrated proficiency with electronics assembly tools, equipment and techniques
  • Knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing Manufacturer’s manuals or similar documents.
  • Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal instructions.
  • Familiarity with inspection tools and equipment
  • IPC and J Standard certifications
  • Knowledge of ESD control methods and standard practices
  • Attention to details
  • Drive light trucks and vans for local courier tasks
  • Able to lift and carry at least 30 lbs. regularly

Preferences:

  • Ability to use complex test instruments such as waveform generators, oscilloscopes, DC Power Supplies, electronic loads, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, digital multimeters and complex computer control equipment
  • Experience with Radio Frequency equipment testing in anechoic chambers.
  • Residential construction level carpentry; facilities maintenance or repair
  • Mechanical and RF Assembly
