Responsibilities/Qualification

Position Summary

The Lead Network Administrator leads the setup, configuration, and support of highly complex internal and/or external networks.  Develops and maintains all systems, applications, security, and network configurations.

 

Responsibilities

  • Working in a data center, perform or maintain;

    • Boundary Devices Management (proxies, firewalls, traffic analyzers, VPN Gateways)

    • Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS)

    • Host Based Security Systems (HBSS)

    • Network infrastructure (routers, switches, enterprise wireless)

    • Domain and Authentication System Management (Active Directory, LDAP, Kerberos, etc.) (enclave wide scope)

    • Vulnerability Scanner Operation (Retina, ACAS, HP Web Inspect, etc.)

    • Virtualization Technology Management that host any of the above (ESX, Solaris Zones, etc.)

  • Support the management of the network infrastructure for regular SDP operations, including:

    • Management of external circuits and their utilization within normal threshold

    • Perform configuration and management of all switches, routers and firewalls within the hosting centers to include all fiber switches

    • Configuration and management of Load Balancing equipment

    • Support of Wide Area Network infrastructure including NIPR, NMCI, Commercial and GIG

    • Configuration, installation and entry of new systems and services in accordance with specified guidance and leadership direction

    • Setup configuration and management of the Storage Area Network devices, Network Attached Storage, and other storage support systems

    • Perform all required network cabling and wiring of power to support operations

    • Management of core network devices and components and their utilization, including but not limited to router, switches, firewall, media converters, patch cables

    • Configuration and management of VLANs, routing and failover mechanism

    • Configuration and management and configuration of firewall rules based on ports, protocols, and services

    • Configuration and management of cryptographic equipment

    • Management of network address schemes and allocations

    • Management of network related STIG activities

  • Provides technical support and training to end-users.

  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant hardware and software applications.

  • Evaluates new hardware and software for large, highly complex networks to determine which products best meet organization/customer needs.

  • Participate in special projects as required.

  • Provide work leadership to less experienced Network Administrators.

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline plus 8 to 10 years of directly related experience.

  • IAT Level II certification (GSEC, Security+, SCNP, or SSCP)

  • Requires thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in network administration and support.

  • Requires thorough knowledge of modems, data scopes, patch panels, concentrators, associated terminals, and network management software.

  • Requires thorough knowledge of desktop operating systems and applications.

  • A Secret security clearance is required after employment.
