Position Summary

The Lead Organic Chemist conducts analytical chemistry projects in the environmental laboratory setting. Position is based in Corvallis, OR

Responsibilities

  • Performs GC/MS and/or LC/MS/MS laboratory analysis and data validation as required to maintain laboratory throughput.
  • Evaluates operations and makes recommendations to improve operations.
  • Holds planning & strategy meetings. Suggests modifications to existing protocols and standing operating procedures, equipment, processes or techniques.
  • Participates in evaluation process to include set up, operation and monitoring of equipment and apparatus, and more complex experimental procedures involving novel samples.
  • Provides technical guidance, instruction and oversight.
  • Assists with lab maintenance.
  • Schedules experiments, suggests new equip, summarizes & records data in official notebooks, orders supplies and maintains a safe working environment. 

Education and Experience:

  • Requires a bachelor's chemistry degree and 4-6 years environmental laboratory experience
  • Familiar with a variety of analytical chemistry concepts, practices, and procedures including EPA SW­846 methods and EPA Air Methods.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Direct experience managing and supervising large projects of a similar nature, and knowledge of NELAC Institute standards.
  • Knowledge of chemical/physical principles, theories, and established methodologies sufficient to manage the full range of duties involved in conducting analytical chemistry projects. Extensive experience using instruments for analyzing organic compounds and direct experience supervising analytical chemists and laboratory operations.
  • Must be US Citizen; no sponsorship available.

  • Ability to be flexible, multi-task, prioritize, and manage multiple activities simultaneously in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Superior attention to detail and the ability to meet stringent deadlines
