Responsibilities/Qualification

This is a part-time position in support of LCU 2000 Class Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) and On-Condition Cyclic Maintenance (OCCM).  In this position, you will develop and implement procedures for product testing, review and evaluate test results, and recommend production or design changes to ensure quality and performance standards. Testing may include highly complex analysis and trouble-shooting.  You will prepare and assist others in the development of status reports, letters, technical memoranda, contact reports, technical analyses or other outputs needed.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related scientific discipline plus 8 to 10 years relevant work experience.  Master’s degree preferred.  Degree(s) must be in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline.  Program Management experience.
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 12 years of applicable work experience.  Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
  • Project management experience.  PMP is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in test engineering is required.
  • Previous operational and test experience as a LCU 2000 Chief Engineer is highly desired.
  • You will need strong analytical skills and attention to detail; excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • This work will occur within an industrial field office, outdoors and/or aboard ship while the ship is undergoing construction, alteration, activation, overhaul, repair and/or underway trials.  Walking and climbing throughout the ship, in order to accomplish ship checks, will be required.  Exposure to high noise levels, uncomfortable temperatures, heights or other industrial safety conditions will require use of personal protective clothing and equipment. 
  • Some prepatory work may be allowed from home, however the majority of work will be at job sites where the vessels are undergoing SLEP and OCCM. Currently this will include travel to job sites at Norfolk, VA or Morgan City, LA to support SLEP/OCCM testing on LCU 2004, LCU 2026, LCU 2006, and LCU 2017 which will occur in Government fiscal year (FY) 2019 and may also incure in FY 2020.  Future work on other LCU 2000 Class vessels, not yet under contract, may be at other CONUS and OCONUS sites.
  • A security clearance of an appropriate level may be required after employment.
