Position Summary:

The Lead Visual Systems Engineer will be responsible for design, development and integration of the Visual System for a multi-hundred million dollar, 5-year, complex Ground Combat Vehicle Virtual Simulator Modernization program. The Lead Visual System Engineer will direct and supervise all visual system engineering activities of the program, and manage the visual system engineering staff, employees, and subcontractors.  He/she will be a direct report to the Chief Systems Engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for all analysis, design, development, integration, and unit testing for the visual system. Provides expert judgment on the fundamentals and principles of professional engineering, computer hardware, systems software, and integration. Leads research and requirements analysis for the design, development and implementation of the visual system products. Oversees the development and testing of visual system content including terrain databases, three dimensional models, and animations to ensure they conform to program requirements. Recommends alterations to development and design processes to improve quality of products and/or procedures.



Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

- Master's Degree in a related area and 10-12 years' experience in the field or related area.   In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 15 years of applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

- Prior Lead or Senior Visual System Engineer experience on a US Department of Defense (DoD) product development and production contract. Contracts valued at $50M in Total Contract Value or higher preferred.

- Army training system and/or PEO STRI experience is preferred.

Security Clearance:

Must currently hold and be able to maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement.

Key Skills and Attributes:

- Knowledge of current modeling and simulation principles, techniques, processes, regulations, and policies.

- Experience with the application and integration of current visual systems and computer graphics hardware technology including image generators, display systems, and video distribution as related to the design of electronic computer based simulation or training systems equipment.

- Ability to evaluate computer technology to meet requirements of scene generation with respect to frame rate, memory and disk space.

- Expertise in the application of real-time display systems including all types of cathode ray tubes, LCD/LED/plasma panel displays, video projection systems, optical viewing devices, projection screens, servo projection systems and helmet mounted displays, and all methods of effectively combining these into visual display systems suitable for training.

-Expertise in the integration of visual system software with host simulation software using CIGI or related protocols.

- Expertise in methods of real-time visual scene generation which supports motion of the viewpoint throughout a complex and often highly detailed three-dimensional simulated visual/sensor environment.

- Knowledge of the application of current computer graphics software and Synthetic Natural Environment (SNE) technologies.

- In-depth knowledge of geographic information systems and the use of mapping, charting, geodesy, and imagery (MCG&I) source data.

- In-depth knowledge of terrain data base modeling systems and terrain data base formats for visual/sensor simulation.

- In-depth knowledge of three dimensional moving model, feature model, and animation development, modeling systems, and formats for visual/sensor simulation.

- Knowledge of systems engineering techniques to include requirements analysis and design methodologies.

- Knowledge of software development methodologies and software engineering processes.

- Expertise in military training systems and general training simulation technology.

- Experience leading and directing the work of others.

- Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals when a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

- Ability to plan and execute complex, multi-faceted projects within established financial and time constraints.
