The Live, Virtual, Constructive (LVC) Engineer is a member of the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) Integrated Systems Division (ISD) engineering staff in support of the Navy Training Baseline (NTB), Navy Trainers, and the NCTE.  The ISD provides systems engineering solutions for the integration of NCTE live, virtual and constructive simulation technologies in support of US Fleet Forces (USFF) and the Number Fleets training and certification requirements.   USFF and the Numbered Fleets conduct synthetic training and mission certification events between pierside ships, ships underway, virtual trainers and training centers during Fleet Synthetic Training (FST) and LVC training events such as the composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX).

The LVC Engineer provides LVC sustainment services in support of LVC training events. This involves supporting the installation and operation of portable embarkable kits (PEKs) that provide enhanced training capability to embedded shipboard training systems while operating underway. While not underway, the LVC engineer uses lessons learned from underway events to help engineer self-sustaining PEK solutions that can be operated with minimal support.

Duties and Responsibilities

The LVC Engineer has the following duties and responsibilities:

• Establish and maintain NCTE connectivity via FST @ Sea capability in support of LVC events underway

• Be able to recognize and advise on issues or incorrect configuration pertaining to shipboard training systems (BFTT/ATD, OBT, BEWT II, SEWTT) as required to integrate them with the NCTE or LVC environment in support of FST and COMPTUEX

• Set up and configure LVC technical solutions (e.g. CIT,CDL and EW PEKs) to support LVC events

• Assist with updating CSOSS procedures that effect the ship's ability to support LVC events

• Occasionally embark on various US Navy carriers, cruisers, destroyers, and amphibs during to support NCTE training devices while underway.  

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering or related discipline plus 10 to 12 years of directly related experience is required. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 12 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.  Experience working with Navy systems and/or commands desirable but not mandatory.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

•         Familiar with Linux and Windows operating systems

•         Expert knowledge  of Aegis and/or SSDS combat systems and sensors as they pertain to NCTE training interfaces especially in an     underway status

•         Familiarization with CSOSS procedures

•         Knowledge of networks and networking concepts

•         Ability to provide technical project solutions, meet technical milestones, estimate resources, and other project engineering skills

•         Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills

•         CompTIA Security + Certification


Must currrently hold and be able to maintain a US Secret clearance
