Job Description

Alion Science & Technology is looking for a Subject Matter Expert Manufacturing Engineer to support the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) Special Programs Division located at Palmdale, CA to provide expertise and assist the Government in performing Technology Readiness Assessments, Manufacturing Readiness Assessments, Production Readiness reviews, and Quality program reviews and to implement Life Cycle Systems Engineering, per AFI 63-1201.

The candidate shall assist in producing or reviewing documents for program office use that support the breadth of acquisition and sustainment logistics efforts.  The candidate shall support the program office during Engineering & Manufacturing Development, Production and Deployment, and Operations and Support phases, to include all milestone activities.  When requested, the candidate shall support the program office in the specific areas as follows:

Perform material solution analyses leading up to design reviews.  The candidate shall produce or support development of draft documentation and presentation materials as requested or necessitated by programmatic constraints based on cost, schedule and performance.

Apply logistics knowledge to perform various tasks related to the planning, development, implementation and management of a comprehensive, affordable and effective systems support strategy.  Address product support elements below:

  • Maintenance Planning and Management
  • Support Equipment/Automatic Test Systems
  • Facilities
  • Packaging, Handling, Storage, and Transportation (PHS&T)

Other requirements:

  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  • Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Provide manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree  in engineering, engineering technology, or related manufacturing discipline (e.g. Industrial Technology)
  • Minimum ten (10) years of manufacturing or industrial experience
  • KSAs in assessing manufacturing maturity of designs, systems, or components;  KSAs in assessing programmatic risks associated with manufacturability and producibility of components
  • Knowledge of DoD Manufacturing Readiness Level Deskbook and DoD acquisition-related manufacturing, production, and quality assurance policies, processes, and assessments
  • Ability to perform effective oral and written communication to students in a classroom, teaching environment
