Job Description


This position supports a Naval Sea Systems Command Acquisition Program Office. Basic engineering competency plus a willingness to learn about U.S. Navy weapons systems, systems engineering, and acquisition processes. You will work with program office and government field activity and lab personnel on short to medium-term projects and issues such as form-fit-function component replacement, fitment and check of designs for interferences using CAD tools, mechanical component production monitoring and issue resolution. You will assist the program office in monitoring status of projects, work on official reports and briefings under supervision, and gradually provide more in-depth system technical knowledge to program office management and acquisition functions as you learn about the design and operation of assigned systems.

General Engineering Skillsets Include:    

Under immediate supervision, assists in engineering work related to researching, designing, and developing machines, mechanical products, or tools, mechanical production equipment, or engines. May test designs.

Supports senior technical personnel and project managers within own organization in various technical activities related to design and technical product development. Receives immediate supervision from management as well as technical guidance and training from the more experienced technical staff.

Applies standard technical concepts, techniques, and procedures to provide assistance to higher-level engineers in the design and development of technical products. Typically follows guidelines established by precedence.

Performs basic engineering work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of system and technical product development. Duties often include the collection of information and data, performance of various tests, and the development of technical documents.

Has limited independent interaction with customers and typically provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables under immediate supervision by more senior technical personnel. 

Complies with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. May provide recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems and applicable company procedures and guidelines.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The position involves limited travel within the United States of less than 25%.


Security Clearance Required

Experience with Solidworks of other CAD tools desired

Experience or internship involving Navy systems or programs desired.

Basic knowledge of engineering principals, methods, and techniques.

Basic knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.

Basic internal team communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
