Responsibilities/Qualification

Alion Science and Technology delivers advanced Engineering, Innovative Analysis, Design, Testing, Risk Informed Modeling, Simulation, IT, Thermal Hydraulic Modeling, Licensing, CAD Modeling and Operation solutions for primarily the Nuclear Power Industry.

Position Summary

The primary responsibility of this role is to provide hands-on laboratory assistance, create scripts, and perform modeling and simulation tasks under direct guidance and supervision of engineers and scientists. Specific tasks may include:

- Create test procedures

- Laboratory maintenance, equipment set-up, and cleaning

- 3D CAD modeling

- Computational fluid dynamics

- Quality Assurance record keeping

- Preparing data summary reports, calculations, simulations, etc.

Education

Bachelor's degree plus 0 to 2 years of related experience. Degree must be in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for comparable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Experience with laboratory equipment or experience with industrial processing

- Use of common laboratory equipment like pH meter, conductivity meter, etc

- Comfortable working with chemicals and understand safe handling practices

- Experience with chemical system modeling and simulation

- Experience with test design, data analysis, and results interpretation

- General computer proficiencies (MS Windows,  MS Office, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint)

- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and good attention to detail

- Professional quality verbal and written communication skills

- Computer programming/scripting experience such as Matlab, Python, C++, Fortran, etc

- Familiarity with Quality Assurance Programs like ISO-9001 or similar

- Familiarity with mechanical systems involving pressure vessels, pumps, valves, and meters

- Familiarity with LabVIEW data acquisition software

- Should be a team player with a desire to learn via a questioning attitude

- Familiarity with 3D CAD modeling

- Familiarity with commercial modeling and simulation software such as Flow-3D, Fluent, ANSYS, etc

- Familiarity with basic operations of commercial nuclear power plants

- Familiarity with chemical process engineering models such as MinTEQ, Aspen, Fathom, etc

- Demonstrated interest and experience in corrosion phenomena

- Demonstrated interest and experience in water quality chemistry, testing, management
