Job Description



Alion is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team developing methodologies and processes for identification of CBRNE/WMD threats in support of full dimensional defeat planning and combat operations. Candidate will  develop detailed assessments and models of physical processes of equipment, utility and facility function from multiple intelligence sources using a suite of analytical tools. Candidate will support technical reachback to operational planners for tactical and strategic planning. Candidate will work closely with government, other contractor and military personnel on a daily basis at a government site. 

Candidate must have  an active/current TS/SCI clearance and be subject to a CI polygraph.

 Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or equivalent degree. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with small groups of technical peers.
  • Ability to communicate technical information both verbally and in writing to laymen and subject matter experts.
  • 10-12 years of experience in engineering.
  • Practical engineering and facility vulnerability knowledge gained through design, construction or facilities management work experience.
  • Experience modeling computational fluid dynamics problems; experience with high performance computing is a plu
  • Knowledge of engineering, modeling or geospatial tools (CAD, GIS, Skyline, RemoteView, ANSYS, DYNA, etc.) and ability to identify new tools with potential utility for the program


  • Experience in industry such as nuclear, power or water treatment; chemical or pharmaceutical facility experience is a plus
  • 15-20 years of experience or Master’s degree in Engineering or Physics.
  • Direct experience supporting reverse engineering, threat analysis and vulnerability assessments of WMD-related facilities, processes and infrastructure (to include hardened/deeply buried targets) .
  • Research and development of new tools and methodologies to understand and reverse engineer processes and support systems at remote WMD-related facilities
