Job Description

Alion is looking for a Lead Network Engineer at Gunter AFB.


  • Experience in all phases of the engineering lifecycle including: requirements; architecture; design; implementation; testing; and operations and maintenance.
  • Ability to survey, design, configure, test, and implement network systems across the AFNet.
  • Understanding of testing, installation and support of network communications, including LAN/MAN/WAN systems.
  • Ability to analyze network traffic, troubleshoot network systems when necessary and make recommendations to improve network capacity planning and overall performance.
  • Responsibility to verify systems quality attributes of plans and documentation, examples:
    •    Telecommunication System Implementation Plan (TSIP), Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL), Lists of Materiel (LOM), improvement white papers
  • Provide input to policy level discussions regarding DoD standards and policy.
    •    Examples:  Task orders, Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), design documentation standards, operational risk decisions
  • Monitor and respond to hardware, software, and network problems.
  • Experience in performing testing of software and systems on diverse hardware, server, and multi-tier web-based applications a plus. Including:
    •    Develop performance/load/stress test procedures and automated testing in order to characterize platform and system performance and build load and stress test suites.
    •    Developing in automation test activities including functional, system, reliability and load/performance testing.
    •    Experience in python and shell scripting in Linux
    •    Experience connecting devices to cloud services


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a network engineering position.
  • Thorough knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, proxy servers, and remote access services.
  • Familiarity with Federal government and DOD standards for IA/security including RMF, FISMA, NIST, and OMB.
  • Able to assess infrastructure, identify areas for improvement, and recommend solutions.
  • Knowledge of relevant server-side tools and technologies. 
  • Experience with network monitoring and management using an automated solution.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining servers and desktops in an enterprise organization.
  • Extensive experience with performance and security as it pertains to network architecture, desktops, laptops, servers, firewalls, routers, and intrusion detection systems (IDS).
  • Solid customer service and communication skills are critical as well as the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must hold, or be able to obtain, Security+ certification.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Active Secret clearance is preferred.
