Alion Science and Technology is looking for an experience Network Engineer for the Marine Corps Networking On-The-Move (NOTM) program.

The Network Engineer will provide direct support to include establishing both fixed satellite communications earth terminals as well as enabling fully mobile vehicular based satellite systems. The Network Engineer will also establish, troubleshoot, and maintain both local area and wide area tactical network connectivity for multiple security enclaves, using a variety of satellite based and radio frequency communications systems as well as hardware encryption devices.

The Network Engineer will test and evaluate new equipment and systems for possible inclusion into the program, test QoS strategies to improve system performance, and provide assistance in the development and testing of prototype tactical vehicles.

The Network Engineer will also support Marine Corps field exercises in demanding environments and assist military personnel in the resolution of complex communications  and systems issues.

Leads the development, planning, designing, and implementation network engineering plans and wide-scale networks.

Performs a variety of engineering studies and analysis and recommends hardware and software selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solutions.

Debugs and tests networks and assists in performing needs assessments by studying network traffic.

Conducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.

Oversees new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.

May Provide training and assist lower level engineers.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems and 7-9 years of relevant experience.

CompTIA Security+ (SY0-301) certification and Cisco CCNA certification required.

Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written correspondence) in a professional and courteous manner with technical and non-technical personnel.

Experience with Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls.

Expertise in the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of small and large scaled networks.

Knowledge of tactical meshing radio systems to include commercial based and military products (e.g. Fortress and PRC-117G in ANW2 mode).

Experience with NSA Type 1 encryption equipment (e.g. KG-175D and KG-250X).

Experience with Marine Corps satellite systems to include very small aperture terminals (VSAT) and vehicular based systems and experience with the Marine Corps Networking On-The-Move (NOTM) program is highly desirable.

The Network Engineer is preferred to have knowledge of and experience with designing, building, and troubleshooting Wide Area Network (WAN) / Local Area Network (LAN); the standard routing protocols such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP); Network Security and Voice architecture, in particular Marine Corps tactical networks; installing and configuring networked systems to include routing and switching with different routing protocols based on network design requirement; and implementing security policy in network architectures.

This position will require an active SECRET clearance and ability to maintain the same.

Travel up to 25% may be required.
