Responsibilities/Qualification

Looking for a change?  Alion is seeking a Principal Electro-Optical Infrared Systems Engineer. This position is focused on helping the Product Manager Ground Sensors advance their technology portfolio.  Duties include identifying industry trends and emerging technologies regarding ground sensors and sensor technology, to developing and producing sensor research and development-related documents and report. Provides an opportunity to work on extremely challenging  projects, that could lead to future growth opportunities. 

Ideal candidate willl work onsite with the PM GS at Fort Belvoir, and will provide subject matter expertise to support the 3GEN FLIR LRAS3 program.  Duties likely to include the following:

Provide technical assistance and recommendations to PM GS to help maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the 3GEN FLIR LRAS3 program.

Analyze technical requirements, schedule, cost, and supportability as they pertain to sensors and sensor technology development for the 3GEN FLIR LRAS3 program.

Identify industry trends and emerging technologies regarding ground sensors and sensor technology and use that knowledge to provide recommendations for short and long-range planning with respect to the 3GEN FLIR LRAS3 program.

Develop and produce sensor research and development-related documents and reports.

Support decision and information briefings; analyze and resolve program issues concerning technology, test and evaluation, logistics, fielding,  and cost; recommend programmatic courses of action; prepare program documentation consistent with relevant Government regulations and policies relating to science and technology program development.

Prepare briefings and documentation for in-process reviews and technical conferences. 

Assist with coordination and preparation of technical and programmatic documents detailing development and integration activities, to include program management plans, technical test and evaluation master plans, memorandums of agreement, system threat assessments, and analysis of alternatives (AoAs).



Qualifications

Bachelors degree in engineering with a minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience.

Experience in design and analysis; testing and data analysis; and integration on platforms (Army ground combat vehicles desired) of infrared and EO sensors.

Experience with optical designs, laser protection, and cryogenically cooled infrared sensors.

Must have a hands on understanding of electronic circuit card assembly (CCA) design and manufacturing to include understanding the applications/limitations/capabilities of FPGAs, microprocessors, software/firmware, and operations of CCAs in combat vehicle environments (thermal, vibration, etc).  

Project engineering and Program Management experience required.

Experience developing sensor performance specifications and interface control documents. 

Knowledge of systems engineering concepts, execution of technical reviews, and verification and validation testing.

Experience working in a US Army Product Manager organization is desired.  Able to work tasks as an individual and as a group.

Secret clearance required

Travel:  0-20% of the time.
