Position Summary:

This part-time position supports the U.S. Army's Ground Vehicle Systems Center's (GVSC) Advanced Concept Team (ACT) mission to originate, develop, assess, and promote conceptual designs and perform feasibility studies for advanced tactical and combat vehicle systems to fulfill the long range and high priority needs of the U.S. Army.

Job Duties:

  • The ideal candidate has extensive professional engineering knowledge, with a background in a variety of system disciplines, such as but not limited to: vehicle integration, systems engineering, propulsion, track and suspension, modeling and simulation, electronics, survivability and force protection, vehicle vulnerability reduction, vehicle configuration/physical architecture, human factors, vehicle safety, lethality, autonomy and Command & Control technology integration.
  • Extensive knowledge of vehicle level conceptual vehicle design techniques, processes and full vehicle assemblies is required. 
  • A working knowledge of both global design trends and approaches in both manned and unmanned combat and tactical ground vehicle design is also required. 
  • As the organizational expert in the systems engineering field, develops, operates and maintains a variety of highly complex technology systems.
  • Participates in the integration of processes and methodologies to ensure the performance of the total system.
  • Work directly with senior technical personnel, program managers, and external organizations in the planning, oversight, execution, and evaluation of multiple complex technical solutions related to a program¿s system and technical product development.
  • Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of scientific principles and practices in broad areas across one or more technical disciplines.  Maintains a liaison role for technical matters with staff and customers, and acts independently on technical issues within his/her field of expertise.
  • Advise program managers on challenging technical issues, coordinates the use of senior technical resources across the organization on multi-disciplinary problems, and provides technical guidance and leadership to less-experienced systems engineers and other technical staff. Works within a peer group of senior technical staff to periodically review technical plans, results, and work products.
  • Recognized within Alion and the technical community as an authority in one or more technical specialties.
  • Typically publishes professional and scientific papers and holds patents.
  • Perform complex and advanced engineering work in design, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of system development, engineering analysis and research for one or more programs.
  • Provide technical advisory and consulting expertise to programs and projects under development, acting as a recognized authority in the appropriate scientific field. 
  • Provide engineering subject matter expertise, guidance and work leadership to technical staff and other internal groups. Serves as a technical specialist for the organization in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes.
  • Serve as program technical team lead.  Prioritizes technical issues, plans technical approach, and works with program managers to develop schedules and staffing plans to support program delivery milestones. 
  • Support program risk identification and management activities. 
  • Coordinate the application of the organizations technical resources when required. 
  • Develop and provide final technical review of major technical reports, status reports, letters, technical memoranda, contract reports and formal briefings.
  • Conduct independent technical investigations and provides impact assessments and design recommendations to clients. 
  • Provide assurance that technical projects are performed in a technically proficient manner and ensures conclusions and recommendations are supported by the analyses presented.
  • Contribute original ideas and innovations to both solicited and unsolicited proposals that result in the expansion of ongoing programs or new program starts.  Develop related briefings and provides understandable and compelling presentations of technical ideas/proposals.

Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of advanced engineering principles, methods, and techniques in more than one area of expertise.
  • Expert knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.
  • Excellent customer and organizational level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • he candidate must be able to obtain and hold a SECRET clearance.
  • Master's Degree plus 10-12 years of experience
