Position Summary

Under direction of a Division/Program Manager, oversees and manages the operational aspects of LCAC Planning Yard Technical group. Plans and manages project to meet the objectives and is accountable for the performance.  Ensures quality and meeting contract objectives and schedules.  

This requirement is for an Engineer to support US Navy Air Cushion Craft. Knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques within a specific area of expertise.  Apply standard technical concepts, techniques, and procedures in the development of technical products directly associated with the LCAC Planning Yard efforts following guidelines, documentation and provide deliverables that have been established to ensure the highest quality submission.

Performs engineering work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in the life cycle maintenance of system and technical products. Provides technical guidance and oversight to technical staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Applies advanced technical concepts, techniques, and procedures to lead a project team in the development of technical products. Identifies and documents project functional requirements. Defines and organizes a proposed project into the tasks and activities needed to solve the problems being addressed. Schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications. Regularly provides technical guidance and oversight to lower level technical staff. Acts as the advisor to meet schedules or resolve technical or operational problems. Directly participates in establishing and administering project controls. Develops and administers, schedules, and performance standards.
  • Develop, revise, update, and distribute alteration drawings and Liaison Action Records (LAR), Craft Change Documents (CCD) and other documentation as necessary. Develops installation drawings and technical packages in support of alteration waivers, deviations, and other changes as necessary.
  • Review Technical Manuals and other documentation for accuracy and process all documentation as required to meet schedule requirements. Prepare configuration control board packages and correspondence relative to alterations as necessary.
  • Supports senior technical personnel and project managers within the organization in various technical activities related to system and technical product development.
  • Directs efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of the Alion team through training and development programs.
  • Develops and presents briefing material (as required) within the company and to the customer.
  • Maintains IDE as required and respond to all tasking within the schedule and technical requirements identified in IDE.
  • Communicates within Alion as necessary to provide accurate assessment of status, issues and other details pertinent to ensure the ongoing success of the Planning Yard efforts in Boston.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field plus 5-7 years or Master's plus 5 years of related experience.  Degree(s) must be in electrical/mechanical/marine engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline. Supervisory/management experience preferred.
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 15 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
  • A secret security clearance is required after employment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques specifically in LCAC Engineering. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs (MS Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint). Effective organization level communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
