Job Description


Alion is seeking a skilled RF Engineer in Panama City, FL. The candidate would provide full time support onsite NSWC PCD with great opportunity for growth alongside Govt. engineers. The location would be onsite NSWC PCD in a RF Engineering Lab. The technical work would be to research, design, integration, and testing of prototypes for Research and Development (R&D) programs to meet real time requirements of the war fighter.

Position Summary

Performs Radio Frequency and Electronics Engineering assignments of moderate to high complexity. Provides direct advisory support in the design, development, and testing of radio frequency (RF) and/or microwave systems architecture, components, circuits, or products.  Includes antenna design, both reflector and array systems, frequency synthesizers, transmitters and receivers.

Support will also include requirements for electronic component circuitry assembly and integration to include soldering activities, connector buildouts for custom electrical cables, and troubleshooting of various electrical systems. Fiber Optic cable support activities may also be included for support of shipboard systems custom cable buildouts, testing, and integration.

Supports senior technical personnel and project managers within own organization in various technical activities related to system and technical product development. Receives general supervision from management as well as technical guidance and training from the more experienced technical staff. 

Duties and Responsibilities          

Performs basic electrical work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of developmental systems and technical products. 

Duties often include the collection of information and data, performance of various tests, and engineering computations, measurements and analyses.  Exhibits the ability to independently perform basic data validation and troubleshooting.

Has independent interaction with customers and provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables. 

Provides support for research and development projects with requirements for various prototype systems and fleet systems. Support services include, at a minimum, the following:

Electrical Connection Soldering Support

  • Must possess or have the ability to complete J-STD-001 IPC Certification within the first 6 months of employment to perform soldering activities on Electrical components and assemblies

Fiber Optic work

  • Troubleshooting and repair of Fiber Optic cables

-     Fabricating all types of fiber connectors MILSPEC, SEACON, AMPHENOL (including single mode and multimode)

Machining work

-     Fabricating prototype items (including end mill, drill press, lathe work, etc.)

Electronic troubleshooting

-     Ability to read electrical schematics, repair, and populate prototype circuit boards including surface mount boards

Evaluation and modification of mechanical and electrical drawings

Fabrication of RF and EMI spec cables, low loss cables, power and data cables. Complies with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. Provides recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems and applicable company procedures and guidelines. 

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree plus 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience.  Degree must be in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline.

A J-STD-001 IPC Soldering Certification is highly desired

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 7 years of applicable work experience.  Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques within a specific area of expertise.

Knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.

Effective organization level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Must possess a Secret level security clearance at time of employment.
