Responsibilities/Qualification

FPGA Digital Design Engineer - help establish a satellite development FPGA lab to carry out design, simulation, implementation and verification HDL/RTL modules for signal processing algorithms for RF and spectrum related applications. Lead system-level design, requirement allocations, design reviews, technical briefings, and demonstrations.  Perform circuit card design, chassis design, integration, testing and debugging to ensure functionality and performance.

Duties and Responsibilities  
Assist in the development of a satellite office FPGA development capability to address innovative and cutting edge solutions to Radio Frequency and Spectrum dependent requirements.

Develop and apply advanced engineering theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of highly complex and advanced technical problems on the forefront of new technologies.

Responsible for the design, implementation and verification of FPGA architectures.

Programming in VHDL, C/C++ for the development and implementation of signal processing algorithms.

Responsible for design and test of custom high speed circuits related to innovative RF/spectrum related applications with minimum oversight and direction.

Work independently to conceptualize and apply advanced technical concepts, techniques, and procedures for the development and advancement of products.

Identify, define and documents project functional requirements based on conceptual needs, and organize a project into the tasks and activities needed to solve the problems being addressed.

Schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications, and provide technical guidance and oversight to lower level technical staff.

Prepare and review input to technical reports, status reports, letters, technical memoranda, contract reports and formal briefings.   Author or co-author technical reports.

Prepare and provide formal briefings to the staff and project sponsors. Leads technical discussions at project review sessions and in negotiations with the project sponsor.

Identify opportunities for follow-on tasking for current projects; develops related briefings, specific project proposals, and works through appropriate channels to schedule presentation of these briefings and proposals to prospective customers.

Research and recommend possible R&D contracts, BAA¿s, Special Vehicle Project and possible customer need applicable to FPGA architectures. 

Additional Responsibilities:
- Designing, implementing and verifying FPGA architectures
- Programming in VHDL, C/C++
- Design of high speed digital and mixed-signal printed circuit cards
- Design and test of custom high speed circuits
- Development and implementation of signal processing algorithms
- Evaluate and troubleshoot digital designs including the issues of EMI/EMC
- Utilization of commercial off the shelf electronics
- Electronic chassis design and testing
- Monitor and project cost and schedule
- Overseeing junior engineers

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline and 5 to 7 years of experience; or Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Proficient in Verilog/VHDL RTL programming, synthesis and timing analysis
- Solid understanding of wireless communication theory and system level design
- Knowledge of Xilinx  development tools, including the Vivado design suite and Planahead
- Knowledge of Altera development tools, including Quartus
- Hands-on experience in debugging real-time FPGA firmware on target platform
- Knowledge of MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation is desirable
- Experience with RF receivers and software defined radio preferred

This position requires a Secret Level Clearance.
