Alion’s expertise in wireless communication is unrivaled.  This includes 50+ years’ of experience performing complex RF Engineering analysis for DoD customers, civilian government agencies, and commercial companies worldwide.  Our expertise in collecting, analyzing, and formatting spectrum data, including RF measurement, frequency assignment, spectrum certification, LiDAR, and other geo-referenced data, enables us to produce refined RF modeling and simulation tools and applications with the reliability and precision needed to assure spectrum access and control.  Alion’s analysis-driven tools support diverse tasks such as spectrum forensics and deconfliction, testing for coverage amid urban clutter, and antenna site planning.  Alion’s Radio Frequency and Electromagnetic Spectrum Engineering Operations (RESED) offers a variety of work, from projects supporting international satellite coordination to countering IEDs.  Our work is increasingly important in a world that depends on well-coordinated, interference-free spectrum access.

Alion is seeking a Lead RF Wireless Engineer to support work in ISR.

Responsibilities          

  • Performs Radio Frequency Engineering assignments of moderate/high complexity. Provides direct advisory support in the design, development, and testing of radio frequency (RF) and/or microwave systems architecture, components, circuits, or products.  Includes antenna design, both reflector and array systems, frequency synthesizers, transmitters, and receivers.
  • Supports leadership within own organization in various technical activities related to system and technical product development. 
  • Performs engineering work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of the development of system and technical products.  Typically employs pre-established guidelines and instructions, and limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish task objectives.
  • Duties often include the collection of information and data, performance of various tests, and engineering computations, measurements, and analyses.  Exhibits the ability to independently perform basic data validation and troubleshooting.
  • Provides some technical guidance and oversight to entry level technical staff and acts as a technical lead for aspects of a project.
  • Has some independent interaction with customers and provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables.
  • Provides input and support to intra-organizational proposal development efforts. May have some exposure to and provide some input to inter-organizational technical and business development activities.
  • Complies with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. Provides recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems and applicable company procedures and guidelines. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, or math is required
  • 8 or more years of relevant work experience is required
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques within a specific area of expertise.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.
  • Effective organization level communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • US Citizenship is required
  • An active DoD Secret security clearance is required
