Job Description

Position Summary:

Alion is seeking a highly skilled, knowledgeable, and motivated Scrum Master to support our Department of Defense customers.  The applicant will be a part of an Agile Scrum team that designs and develops interactive courseware for customer.  Position is based in Alexandria, VA, but the work can be largely conducted as work-from-home in the COVID enviraonment. 

The ideal applicant will require strong analytical skills and must be a self-starter with great initiative and ability to lead scrums in an agile development environment.  Work requires experienced scrum master who interacts daily with the software team and product owners and semi-monthly with the customer. 

The project involves initially developing training content for three related but independent computer applications, then building that content into computer-based training (CBT) courses.  The project will likely be decomposed into several scrums (one per application) that must be coordinated to provide a cohesive set of CBT courses across all three applications.

Duties will be under the general direction of the project and program manager and within the scope of the work derived from a contract with a government customer.

Duties:  The scrum master will perform a wide range of tasks to support the development of training solutions, including:

• Liaising with the product owners (PO) and stakeholders to create product visions
• Liaising with each PO, stakeholder and the program manager to create product roadmap that covers iterative delivery of CBTs
• Facilitating organization of the scrums to support the product roadmap
• Setting up an managing the Jira Scrum Boards for the project
• Leading the development effort by conveying the vision and roadmap to the Scrum
• Leading the daily scrum stand-up and other sprint events (e.g., sprint planning, kick-off, review & retro)
• Serving as the Scrum’s primary contact for information, work prioritization, and decision-making. Coordinate and monitor the Scrum process throughout each sprint
• Liaising with the POs to maintain and groom the product backlog and facilitating productivity by setting up meetings to remove impediments that may obstruct the pursuit of the team's sprint goals.
• Supporting briefings, software demonstrations, and technical meetings for customers and potential customers
• Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of experience in agile software development
  • Educational requirements may be adjusted for applicable work experience
  • Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience
• Strong MS Office proficiency
• Scrum master certification
• Strong analytical, problem-solving capabilities
• Must be US citizen

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with using Confluence/Jira as Agile development tool
