Job Description



In compliance with the NISPOM, assists in administering the standard aspects of the DOD or other industrial security programs to guarantee conformity with government and company security policies and procedures. Primary duties include assisting in the daily functions of the security program, program inspections, audits and investigations.  Duties include the use of JPAS to initiate, process, and maintain security clearances for employees in the facility where located. At the direction of the FSO, assists with conducting security briefings and with the administration of the security education program. Enforces local security policies and procedures required for the classification, downgrading, upgrading, and safeguarding of classified information at the local facility. 

Candidate should be detail oriented and have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Candidate reports to a Manager within a facility with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Corporate Security Officer. Under technical supervision of the Corporate Security Officer and the Law Department, performs as an Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO). 

Administer routine aspects of the local facility DoD or other Industrial Security Program.

Process initial clearances and maintain current security clearances using the JPAS system which includes eQIP.

Maintain security databases.

Conduct administrative tasks associated with the industrial security operation including: staff briefings/debriefings, creating employee badges, fingerprinting for security clearance submissions, and maintenance of security containers and associated locks.

Ensures compliance with all government regulations affecting the facility and export-related regulations.  In some cases, provides for the security of the building and for safety and fire prevention measures required for work-force and facility protection in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and procedures.

Assist in investigations of losses and security violations, compromises, or suspected compromises.

Perform internal security inspections to ensure compliance with NISPOM and all other government required regulations.

Ensures destruction of classified and confidential information in accordance with policies and procedures.

May interface with outside agencies.

Assist in maintaining security education programs.

Monitor security procedures and assist with procedure manual revisions.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Familiar with the NISPOM.

Familiar with the use of the features and applications offered on the DSS website which includes JPAS (with eQIP), ISFD, ENROL and e-FOCI.

Successful completion of fundamental DSS Academy courses.

Good written and oral communication skills.

Good interpersonal skills.

Microsoft Office skills.

Knowledge of the DoE or other government security regulatory manuals a plus.

Experience with security inspections a plus.
