Position Summary

Alion Science and Technology Corporation is seeking a Senior Ground Shock Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) support to a major DoD Agency located in Albuquerque, NM at Kirtland AFB for operational test events. Some travel (<10%) to the White Sands Missile Range, NM may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide review on the penetrability properties of inaccessible foreign target sites, ground shock and conventional air blast on accessible US structures and test sites.
  • Identify key material properties on which to base models to predict material properties of interest including steel, concrete and damaged concrete and target behavior associated with weapons effects.
  • Identify phenomenology issues affecting related programs, and develop programs which optimize resources to obtain critical data to advance DoD capabilities for the defeat of hardened targets.
  • Provide review of technical activities including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Develop test plans and methodologies to meet measurement objectives to support customer testing and provide post-test assessments to determine diagnostics and system performance, and how well diagnostics met test objectives.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or GeoPhysics or related fields of study and a minimum of 6 years’ experience working directly with radiological monitoring in a test and evaluation (T&E) environment is required.
  • A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or GeoPhysics is preferred.
  • US Citizenship is required: Must have active/current Top Secret (TS) with ability to obtain TS/SCI.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in ground shock studies.
  • Knowledge of and experience using a variety of weapon penetration and damage/injury  assessment codes (e.g., IMEA, VAPO, PDCALC, Improved Ground Shock VN (IGVN), etc.).
  • Knowledge of Computational Fluid and Solid Mechanics domains.
  • Experience in using Ground Shock Codes coupled with high explosive test events for prediction and analysis is desired.
  • Effective organization level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • MS Office proficiency and ability to work in an individual and team environment.
