Job Description



Responsibilities/Qualification

The Senior Marine Engineer works with various, complex Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) systems in support of the Government HM&E Manager and Support HM&E Manager. Concentration may include the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)/Electronic Chart Display and Information System-Navy (ECDIS-N), Machinery Control System (MCS), and Electric Distribution Systems. Supports PMS377 LHA Program for development of technical products and troubleshooting HM&E systems and components such as:

  • Machinery Control System
  • Central Control Station
  • Fiber Optic Cable Plant for MCS
  • MCS LAN
  • Alarm Systems
  • Instrumentation
  • HMI Screens
  • Software Support Activity
  • ECDIS-N
  • Automated Bridge System

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with cognizant engineers to ensure any changes to their system components do no adversely impact the performance of the MCS.  If changes do impact MCS, responsible for documenting and scoping any changes to retain MCS functionality. 
  • Ensures HM&E components and systems meet the LHA Ship Specifications.
  • Develops in-line and post-delivery changes, ensuring required technical specifications are met, and that the scope of the change is developed with the highest technical accuracy and quality. 
  • Aids in the overall management of the HM&E support staff. 
  • Provides historical practices/lessons learned.  Ensures consistency in tracking of all efforts within the PMS3774 HM&E Staff.  
  • Travels to outside activities and participate in shipboard trial events upon Government approval.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree 5-7. A professional engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university plus 5 to 7 years relevant work experience.  
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years of applicable work experience.  Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
  • AutoCAD proficiency desired.
  • Previous HM&E, Merchant Marine, or Navy experience is highly desirable.

A SECRET security clearance is required.
