Senior Modeling & Simulation Engineer
The Senior Modeling & Simulation Engineer- Bold Quest (BQ) Demonstration, will provide support to the Joint Staff J6 Deputy Director for Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Cyber Integration (DDC5I), Joint Fires Integration Division, Demonstration Branch. Specifically, this individual will provide direct support to develop concepts, plan, execute and report on Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) (and related) aspects of the Joint Staff J6’s BQ Coalition Capability Demonstration and Assessment events. The BQ Demonstration Engineer performs engineering and project management activities in order to support BQ LVC planning and execution.
Duties and Responsibilities
The BQ Demonstration Engineer has the following duties and responsibilities:
Serve as Technical Lead for BQ events. In this role, you will support the Joint Staff J6 LVC Lead to meet specific BQ event mission requirements and coordinate with the distributed BQ technical team to ensure these event requirements are met.
- Design, integrate, test and validate systems architectures that support specific BQ event requirements.
- Document processes and systems using established diagram standards (e.g., Department of Defense (DoD) Architecture Framework (DoDAF) SV-1 and SV-2)
- Monitor the health and status of BQ LVC events during execution and direct activities of the distributed technical team to address any technical issues.
- Troubleshoot LVC system issues and ensure BQ event system interfaces are configured in accordance with documented interface standards.
Education and Experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline plus at least 5 years of directly related experience is required.
In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 11 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience. - Experience working with Department of Defense (DoD) organizations, personnel and/or systems and/or is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
- Military experience a plus.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Should have a thorough understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems and be able to use advanced capabilities of these systems
- Should be conversant in networking concepts, architectures, and transport technologies like TCP/IP and UDP multicast
- Should be capable of network troubleshooting, both physical and logical, with DoD networks (e.g., JTEN)
- Should be able to use network and distributed modeling & simulation tools such as Wireshark, Joint Simulation Protocol Analyzer (JSPA) and Joint Bus (JBUS)
- Should have comprehensive knowledge of distributed simulation standards and protocols such as Distributed Simulation Engineering and Execution Process (DSEEP), High Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS)
- Should be familiar with DoD C4I and tactical data link systems such as Link-16
- Should be able to effectively analyze and troubleshoot distributed simulation problems and provide acceptable solutions / corrective actions
- Should be able to provide technical project leadership as part of a distributed multinational team consisting of military, government and industry personnel
- Must have excellent written and spoken communication skills
- CompTIA Security+ and Linux+ certifications are not required for the position, but are a plus.
