Job Description



Position Summary

Responsibilities and duties for the Navy Senior Configuration/Data Management Analyst include Management and Planning, Configuration Identification, Configuration Control, Configuration Status Accounting, Configuration Verification and Audit and Data Management.

Additional duties include: 

  • Manage engineering design data that specifies and details complex engineering requirements for Navy ship and craft construction and repair contracts.
  • Implements configuration practices in accordance with government and industry standards in response to contractual requirements.  
  • Responsible for configuration management and data management of documents, hardware and software baselines, and data. Analyzes proposed product design changes to determine the effect on the overall system.
  • Responsible for configuration control during product development phase.
  • Ensures configuration identification by reviewing design release documents for completeness, proper authorizations and system updates.
  • Develops complex configuration analysis plans to encompass contractual requirements.
  • Develops and maintains configuration management database.
  • Coordinates with customers and manufacturers to determine a process for change reporting.
  • Prepares deviations and waivers for government approval when specifications cannot be met.
  • Compiles audit information and may audit subcontractor’s inspection or technical document preparation procedure to verify compliance with contract requirements. 
  • Prepares written or electronic records of part design change documents. 
  • Provides project-level technical support to other staff.
  • Prepares or provides input to engineering analyses, status reports, letters, technical memoranda, briefings, and contract reports.
  • Authorizes the release of drawings and changes specified by Program Management and other functional groups.
  • Provides advice and guidance on methods, procedures and requirements to individuals responsible for the creation of documentation.
  • Provides guidance to less experienced Configuration Analysts.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline and 5 to 7 years of directly related experience.
  • Education and work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.


  • Work experience in Configuration/Data Management, preferably with the Navy conducting Engineering Change Proposals, Administrative Changes, Condition Reports/RCIAs, Deviations/Waivers, and/or Contract Data Requirements List (CDRLs).   
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret Security Clearance after employment.


  • Familiarity with the DoD Directive 5000 Series.
  • Navy ship construction experience.
  • Experience interpreting ship’s drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
