Responsibilities/Qualification

 

Position Summary

Manages Alteration Installation Team (AIT) efforts across various ship classes and ensures requirements are defined and met according to specifications. Typically supports multiple project activities and may support multiple programs within the organization. 

Specific tasks include:

Conduct applicability ship checks to validate and document existing shipboard conditions.

Coordinate Alteration Installation Teams (AIT), installing activities, and subcontractors in the development of production level sketches to identify those areas where "field run" installation actions are required and guidance drawings are silent.  Sketches shall provide sufficient detail to address all aspects of fabrication/installation and material requirements.

Responsible for the coordination of AIT, installing activities, and subcontractors in establishing a systematic and efficient schedule to enhance production as well as coordinate close out at the conclusion of production.

Provide technical and programmatic support. Review and evaluate various system documents, drawings, and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) products to ensure accuracy and proper shipboard integration and installation.

Attend the daily production meeting and will brief AIT progress for assigned areas at this meeting.

Manage and maintain the AIT database and participate in associated bi-weekly meetings to review and update the status of each planned system installation effort. The AIT database will be utilized to track, coordinate, and provide all information pertaining to the AIT effort (i.e. Technical Data Packages (TDPs), ILS, Plans of Action and Milestone (POA&M), Industrial Support requirements, Objective Quality Evidence (OQE), SOVTs, Point of Contact (POC) information, training requirements, etc. One of AIT databases many reports is the “Scorecard.” Scorecards are a powerful management/planning tool that presents important data necessary to support an installation.

Liaison with the planning yard to facilitate approvals of any change documentation or upcoming configuration changes.  Work with the planning yard when a new system change is forthcoming to coordinate design/support requirements.

Provide a bi-weekly summary report to include a method to manage and measure performance.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree plus 5 to 7 years of relevant work experience. Master's degree preferred. Degree must be in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline.  In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years of applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Must have experience within a shipbuilding, ship repair, or ship maintenance program.

An Active Secret  Security Clearance is required for employment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Must have knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items.

Must have knowledge of S9AA0-AB-GOS-010/GSO, General Specifications For Overhaul of Surface Ships.

Demonstrated command of engineering principles, methods, and techniques in more than one area of expertise.

Advanced knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software. Must be able to operate personal computers and have good knowledge and operational abilities with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook E-mail, Access and Project), Adobe Acrobat, and Windows Explorer.  Experience creating and maintaining spreadsheets for tracking construction and quality of ship construction projects preferred.

Effective customer and organizational level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

This work may occur within an industrial field office, outdoors and/or aboard ship while the ship is undergoing construction, alteration, activation, overhaul, repair and/or underway trials.  Walking and climbing throughout the ship, in order to accomplish ship checks, will be required.  Exposure to high noise levels, uncomfortable temperatures, heights or other industrial safety conditions will require use of personal protective clothing and equipment.
