Senior Systems Administrator/IT Manager

Alion is in search of an experienced Senior Systems Administrator/IT Manager to assist in managing a team of systems administrators and cyber-defense professionals supporting the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE).  The Sr. Systems Administrator/IT manager will be responsible for providing NCTE IT and defensive cyber support for 9 enterprise networks and to customers located throughout the world.  This position requires managerial experience as well as a strong technical background working with Windows and Red Hat operating systems, VMware hypervisors, and experience with cybersecurity and patching tools such as HBSS, ACAS, Tanium, SCCM, Satellite, etc.  This job requires regular interface with senior and mid-level military personnel, government and contractor event ops personnel, as well as engineering staff throughout the organization.  The candidate will lead and train junior personnel and have oversight of most IT Ops related efforts. 

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing a IT/Cyber Operations center and providing enterprise IT support to customers across 9 different networks
  • Ensuring patches and reboots occur when event operations are not in progress
  • Coordination with site personnel to deconflict schedules for patching, reboots, software installs, and OS upgrades.
  • Provides coordination and scheduling to ensure HBSS point products updates and policy changes are implemented across the enterprises while minimizing disruptions to event operations
  • Provides oversight and direction to ACAS scanning team and patching team.  Reviews ACAS scans and provides analysis so patching team is focused on remediating open findings
  • Responds to issues that occur during event operations and works to resolve incidents and return services to normal operations.  Keeps detailed logs of issues and incidents that impact events.
  • Send out outage notifications and respond to communications spot reports (COMSPOT) as required
  • Maintain and activate recall roster to recall specific teams/personnel based on outage/incident escalation
  • Maintain pass down log for evening shift personnel to quickly address issues that could not be resolved before end of shift
  • Writing detailed policy documents and standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or related discipline and 5-7 yrs. of experience.  In some cases educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 11 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.   

  • 7+ years of IT related experience
  • ITIL or CMMI certification preferred
  • Experience managing enterprise level networks
  • Experience using Microsoft WSUS or SCCM
  • Experience administering Windows Servers 2012R2/2016
  • Windows desktop operating systems (WIN10 SHB)
  • Experience digesting and implementing DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG)
  • Experience with patching Microsoft servers and workstations
  • Experience with VMware
  • Familiarity with VDI technologies and protocols
  • Experience with RHEL 6/7
  • Experience patching RHEL systems using Satellite, Capsule, and/or Yum
  • Experience with Ansible a plus
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read and digest technical information
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong customer focus, including the ability to manage customer needs and multiple work priorities
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Manage stakeholders expectations
  • IT Management experience is preferred
  • Security + certification or equivalent certification
  • Must have or be able to obtain an operating system certification (Linux+ or Microsoft certification) within the first 45 days of hire
  • Must currently hold and able to maintain a US Secret security clearance.
