Position Summary:

Alion Science & Technology currently has a career opportunity for a Senior Technical Writer to provide Force Development Analysis Support (FDAS) to the Joint Staff J7 in Suffolk, VA. This position is contingent upon contract award.

The FDAS-Alion Contract Support Team provides high quality specialized research and analysis in support of Joint Force development. For this effort, Joint Force development activities include three lines of effort requiring analytic support: 1) developing a comprehensive view of the future operating environment; 2) developing joint concepts that recommend new approaches and capabilities to address current or future challenges; and 3) analysis and assessment support for implementing Joint Force development recommendations.


Writes and edits complex technical documents, including reports, plans, execution orders in conformance with the recent industry accepted writing style guides. Consults with the Program Manager and task leads to determine most appropriate schedule of deliverables and objectives for writing projects. Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits post event reports for delivery to government customer. Edits documentation for style, clarity, consistency, and adherence to program guidelines. Interacts closely with task leads, research analysts, subject matter experts, facilitators, and government action officers in the preparation and production of a variety of documents and briefings. Conducts interviews with program members to gather data for documentation. Coordinates large production efforts and delivery of products to internal and external stakeholders.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline plus 5 to 7 years of directly related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Proficiency in the English language.

Familiar with appropriate style guidelines.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

DoD or military experience preferred.

Active Secret clearance.
