Responsibilities/Qualification

Position Summary

Under general supervision, performs analysis, design, development, testing, debugging and implementation of moderately complex software application programs in support of distinct product hardware or technical service lines of business. Employee will be part of a team providing engineering and technical support to Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Code 85 Large Diameter Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (LDUUV) design.

Duties and Responsibilities

Defines specifications for moderately complex software programming applications and/or oversees the maintenance of existing programs to ensure continued performance and compliance with current guidelines and standards.

Performs all necessary aspects of the programming phase of software development including coding, testing, debugging and documenting using current guidelines and standards.

Defines architecture requirements and performance standards to meet customer specifications.

Participates in the analysis and development of test plans.  Tests assigned components and units, provides test results and recommends corrections.

Identifies and directs resolution of moderately complex hardware/software interface issues or other technical problems.

Researches and develops prospective applications and products and maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies.

Authors or assists in the writing and/or presentation of briefings (reports on analyses, findings, and project progress), project or task plans, system specification manuals, technical reports and user manuals.

Participates in the preparation of technical proposals.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline plus at least 2 to 4 years of directly related experience. Professional certification(s) may be required.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 7 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by 
market survey data.

Must have experience generating software test plans, software test descriptions, software test reports, and other software design and specification documents.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Ability to communicate software concepts effectively.

Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in software and systems development.

Experience with software development tools and programming languages.

A SECRET clearance will be required upon employment.
