Responsibilities/Qualification

Position Summary

Under immediate supervision of a Sr. Software Engineer, assists in performing the analysis, design, development, testing, debugging and implementation of software application programs in support of an onsite Navy environment. Candidate will work inside secured locations onsite NSWC PCD.

Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.

This junior level position has great potential for long term career path and future growth in the growing local Defense Contracting market.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assists in defining specifications for software programming applications and/or oversees the maintenance of existing programs to ensure continued performance and compliance with current guidelines and standards.

Has ability to work independently and under general direction ensuring daily reporting requirements are upheld to ensure continuous support to customer missions.

Possesses knowledge of a variety of software development environments (Java preferred).

Performs software tests/investigation and provide clarification to the team about how the software works in order to assist them in development efforts.

Possesses ability to work well with a team of developers.

Assists with defining specifications for software programming applications and/or oversees the maintenance of existing programs to ensure continued performance and compliance with current guidelines and standards.

Performs all necessary aspects of the programming phase of software development including coding, testing, debugging and documenting using current guidelines and standards.

Develops architecture requirements and performance standards to meet customer specifications.

May perform systems modeling, simulation and analysis.

Receives guidance from experienced software developers/architects.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by lead software engineer and upper management.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline plus 0 to 4 years of directly related experience.  Professional certification(s) are also preferred (see Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities).

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted for comparable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by 
market survey data.

Preferred certifications:

Security + (Can be substituted by CISSP)

CompTIA A+

CompTIA Network +

CompTIA Security +

ISC2 CISSP

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Familiar with the principles, practices, and procedures used in software and systems development.

Experience with software development tools and programming languages.

A Secret level security clearance is required prior to employment.
