Responsibilities/Qualification

Position Summary

Under general direction by lead software engineers and technical customers, performs programming functions, analysis, design, development, testing, trouble shooting, and implementation of complex software application programs in support of an onsite Navy environment. Candidate must have a strong background with programming complex systems with integrated software and hardware solutions and familiarity with verification and validation of hardware/software, hardware/software configuration management, and basic systems engineering design principles.

Position requires daily reporting to secured locations onsite NSWC PCD. This senior level position has great potential for long term career path and future growth in the growing local Defense Contracting market.

Duties and Responsibilities

Must have the capability to effectively communicate as a cohesive member of a fast-paced team to keep up with urgent requirements.

Must have ability to work independently and under general direction ensuring daily reporting requirements are upheld to ensure continuous support to customer missions.

Must have experience with a variety of software development environments (Java preferred).

Performs software tests/investigation and provide clarification to the team about how the software works in order to assist them in development efforts.

Participates in constructive collaboration and presents overall results with other government and contractor engineers.

Possesses ability to work well with a team of developers.

Defines specifications for complex software programming applications and/or oversees the maintenance of existing programs to ensure continued performance and compliance with current guidelines and standards.

Performs all necessary aspects of the programming phase of software development including coding, testing, debugging and documenting using current guidelines and standards.

Develops architecture requirements and performance standards to meet customer specifications.

Participates in the analysis and development of test plans.  Tests assigned components and units, provides test results and recommends corrections.

Identifies and directs resolution of complex hardware/software interface issues or other technical problems in a systematic and documented manner.

Researches and develops prospective applications and products and maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies.

Authors or assists in the writing and/or presentation of briefings (reports on analyses, findings, and project progress), project or task plans, system specification manuals, technical reports and user manuals.

Participates in the preparation of technical proposals as required by upper management.

Provides guidance to less experienced software developers/architects.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by lead software engineers and upper management.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline plus 5 to 7 years of directly related experience or a Master’s degree and 3 years of experience. Professional certification(s) are also preferred (see Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities).

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by 
market survey data.

Security + (Can be substituted by CISSP)

CompTIA A+

CompTIA Network +

CompTIA Security +

ISC2 CISSP

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Ability to communicate software concepts effectively.

Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in software and systems development.

Experience with software development tools and programming languages.

A Secret level security clearance is required prior to employment.
