Position Summary:

Performs analysis, design, development, testing, debugging and implementation of highly complex distributed software systems. Work in a diverse, highly skilled team to develop software to bridge tactical systems to simulation-based training solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and development of systems within the Force-on-Force Evaluation and Analysis of Key Performance Parameters (FREAK) environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The lead developer will be required to manage a team of developers/engineers and subject matter experts to develop, enhance, integrate, and support engineering projects. This engineer will be responsible for the full life-cycle of software engineering for given projects, including the employment of project engineering, systems engineering and application development activities. Additionally, the lead engineer will be required to provide mentoring for more junior developers/engineers, assist with the institutionalization of processes and procedures, and lead the organization by example.
  • Define specifications for complex software appliances and/or oversees the maintenance of existing systems to ensure continued performance and compliance with current guidelines and standards.
  • Oversee all necessary aspects of the systems development lifecycle including design, testing, debugging and documenting using current guidelines and standards. 
  • Define architecture requirements and performance standards to meet customer specifications.
  • Oversee the analysis and development of test plans.  
  • Oversee the identification and implementations resolution of complex hardware/software interface issues or other technical problems.
  • Research and develops prospective products and maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies.
  • Author or assists in the writing and/or presentation of briefings (reports on analyses, findings, and project progress), project or task plans, system specification manuals, technical reports and user manuals.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical proposals. 
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or related field plus at least 8 to 10 years of directly related experience. Highly prefer 10 or more years of experience.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 5 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.    

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:  

  • Experience with language programs such as C/C++ and JAVA
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Familiarity with web development and architecture is a plus 
  • 5-10 years of professional experience in system design and development is required
  • Strong background in technical team leadership is required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment is required 
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate engineering concepts effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in systems development.
  • Understanding of software engineering. 
  • Experience with software development tools and programming languages are a plus.
