National Security Space Institute, Space Power Lab, Information Systems Engineer

Position Summary:

The Information System Engineer develops, implements, and administers network and security procedures for classified computer systems based on the Department of Defense (DoD) networking requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Applies current computer science technologies to the development and continued support of computer systems and networks a DoD information systems.
  • Serves as primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all Information Technology on a Windows based network.
  • Supports all Information Technology tasks including administration, networking and audio visual technologies.
  • Solid understanding or LAN networks
  • Ensures that periodic self-assessments of the facility’s classified information systems are conducted as part of the overall facility self-inspection program and that all corrective actions are taken.


  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Information Technology or Systems Engineering
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Security Plus Certification
  • 7+ years of relevant system engineering experience (system engineering experience is a must-have for this position)
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Basic Qualifications:

  • DoD Secret Security Clearance and the ability to obtain a Top Secret SCI clearance (TS//SCI).
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of CISCO equipment.
  • Experience in developing external customer relationships and communications. 
  • Experience in providing awareness and training to personnel.
  • Experience in authoring technical documentation.
  • Experience in monitoring the performance of servers, software and hardware.
  • Self-disciplined to lead IT projects with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with MS SQL Server, ACAS, ePO (HBSS), SCAP, StigViewer and SolarWinds.
  • Experience with Audio Visual equipment.
