Responsibilities/Qualification

Position Overview:

Final Secret security clearance is required.

PMS 397 oversees the design, construction, and delivery of the COLUMBIA Class Submarine.  This position supports the detail design and construction effort  for the COLUMBIA Class Submarine Program.  The Integrated Product Development Environment (IPDE) is a composite of systems (e.g. data management and authoring applications), processes, and culture which can enable efficient design, construction and support throughout the lifecycle of the ship.  The IPDE allows Navy users access to the design data via the existing network infrastructure. 

Purpose of Position/Major Duties:

The IPDE Network Engineer position reports to the IPDE/Information for a Collaborative Exchange (ICE) manager and performs the following duties:

  • Provide direct support to the PMS397 IPDE/ICE Manager in efforts to implement IT aspects of IPDE supporting the COLUMBIA Program.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to coordinate between contractor and Navy organizations about IT related infrastructure and development to support development of the IPDE tool.
  • Interface with NAVSEA IPDE users (e.g. PMS 397, SEA 05, SEA 08, Strategic Systems Programs) to develop strategies and IT procedures to support efficient implementation of the IPDE tool.
  • Work with TEAM SUB Assistant Chief Information Officer to ensure network infrastructure can support IPDE system and information security needs.
  • Evaluate and support transition of legacy submarine drawing based design and sustainment to technical data package (TDP) design and sustainment.
  • Troubleshoot network issues.  Create, review and execute test plans to resolve issues.
  • Facilitate timely decisions by team members in the review and adjudication of design products and written correspondence by the appropriate NAVSEA technical stakeholders such as Naval Reactors, Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), the UK, and NAVY Field Activities in accordance with Ship Specifications to meet commitment completion dates.
  • Establish and manage IPDE/ICE commitments.  Track and report status of IPDE/ICE commitments.
  • Attend weekly commitment meetings and other applicable meetings required to support IPDE Lead.
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to the development and oral delivery of briefings for senior NAVSEA and industry leadership.

Knowledge/Experience Required of the Position:

  • 5 years of experience managing and resolving issues with network operations
  • Certified CCNA
  • Experience with Security Plus and troubleshooting Citrix problems
  • Engineering,  Computer Science or related degree required
  • Ability to understand and succinctly summarize, communicate, and document technical issues
  • The ability to use a variety of software products (e.g. MS Office, MS Outlook) and information systems
  • Knowledge of Product Lifecycle management (PLM) software (Siemens Teamcenter / NX) preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience with Information Technology (IT) infrastructure
