Responsibilities/Qualification

Position Summary

Nuclear Shipyard Chief Test Engineer Graybeard to provide mentoring and guidance to support the COLUMBIA Class submarine program and Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia at the Compatibility Test Facility.

Position is located in Philadelphia, PA.

Final Secret Clearance is required.

Recognized as an expert in the field of nuclear propulsion plant testing, develops and applies advanced electrical and propulsion theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of the most difficult, complex, and advanced technical problems on the forefront of new technologies. Provides subject matter expertise and plans, conducts and technically directs projects or major phases of significant projects.

Works across organizations in support of program development and technical execution on technically complex high impact programs. Sets technical direction and conducts execution oversight for high visibility technically complex programs.  Applies expert knowledge of scientific practices and principles in formulating or approving technical applications in broad areas of assignment.  Maintains a liaison role on technical matters with staff and customers and acts independently on technical matters in field of expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities          

Provides consultation, mentoring and recommendations to support oversight of a highly complex and advanced engineering effort concerned with the design, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of system development, and engineering analysis of the COLUMBIA Class Integrated Power System, which includes electrical power generation, distribution and propulsion.

Advises the technical staff in developing appropriate approaches to complex or technically difficult tasks.  In sensitive and critical matters, reviews and discusses the work of the technical staff to assure the technical accuracy of documentation describing a problem, the analysis, the conclusion, and the resulting recommendation.

Performs business development activities; interfaces directly with senior level customer management; Works with senior management, engineers, and customer on all technical and scientific matters relating to customer obligations.

Education and Experience

Master’s degree in nuclear engineering or related field, plus 12 or more years of relevant work experience.  In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 20 years of applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Extensive experience as a Chief Test Engineer and in running the Joint Test Group for a nuclear Shipyard.

A final SECRET security clearance is required for consideration.
