Job Description



Responsibilities/Qualification

Work with the PHD NSWC post-Delivery team, the PMS-501/505/420 Program Offices, CS ISEAs, CS Subject Matter Experts, the LCS Full-Service Contractors and the modernization/repair engineering community to design and validate ship drawings and specifications and monitor resultant work for conformance to the drawings/specs.   Drawing validation/design will include analyzing drawings for new construction requirements conformance, meeting certification and fleet modernization instruction/procedure requirements,  correct arrangements of equipment, maintainability and access to equipment, supportability of material, weight control, cost control and  correctness of the equipment lay out. 

The work will include walking the LCS-class ships during installation of modernization and repair 2 times daily to ensure the correct drawing/specifications are being followed, flagging issues to the design/installation community as they become known, and participating in modernization and repair meetings to understand the scope of what is being designed and installed. 

Knowledge requirements for the work include familiarization with LCS-class ships, access to and familiarization with LCS IDE accounts, intermediate-level use of the MS Office suite of programs, ability to write well, strong background in drawing familiarity across shipbuilding disciplines (electrical, piping, arrangement, ship fitting, Build of Materials, etc.), thorough understanding of US Naval and commercial policies and procedures relative to shipboard design and installation.  Understanding of fleet and program office work package development and execution processes, understanding of test and inspection requirements,  Prepare and submit,  as required, status reports, Statements of Work, work specifications, and POA&Ms.

Work Environment:  Office (40% time), ship in heavy industrial Environment (60% time)

Travel:  Estimate 1 week travel every 2 months to any of the following locations: Washington, D.C.; Mobile, AL; Marionette, WI; Mayport, FL; Singapore or
Norfolk, VA.



Qualifications

Bachelors degree in engineering or a related scientific discipline plus 5 to 7 years relevant work experience.  Masters degree preferred.  Degree(s) must be in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 15 years of applicable work experience.  Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Experience with installation, testing, and troubleshooting electronic and electrical systems specializing in combat, command, control, and communication systems.

A proactive attitude, strong  organizational abilities, an understanding and ability to be tactful and ability to represent PHD NSWC well in high-level meetings.

Proficient in troubleshooting shipboard software and hardware faults in navigation, engineering, and steering control systems.

Active DoD Secret Clearance.
