Responsibilities/Qualification

 

The employee will work as a senior member of a government-contractor technical team to provide onsite technical systems engineering expertise in integrated power systems to Naval Sea Systems Command SEA 05Z in support of the COLUMBIA Class Ballistic Missile Submarine Program.

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Under limited supervision, support design and acquisition of the propulsion plant system and its power generation, distribution and control systems.
  • Work directly with senior technical personnel and project managers in the planning and execution of technical activities on complex projects related to system and technical product development.  
  • Employ existing guidelines and instructions, guidance from higher-level engineers, experience, and independent judgment to plan and accomplish task objectives.  Assignments may require the development of improvements to current techniques and procedures.
  • Apply advanced technical concepts, techniques, and procedures to lead a project team in the development of technical products. Identify and document project functional requirements.  Define and organize a proposed project into the tasks and activities needed to solve the problems being addressed. Schedule work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.  Regularly provide technical guidance and oversight to lower level technical staff.
  • Receive limited technical guidance and training from more experienced technical staff.  Plans, results, and work products are reviewed periodically by senior technical staff. 
  • Prepare and review input to technical reports, status reports, letters, technical memoranda, contract reports and formal briefings.  Author or co-author technical reports.
  • Prepare and provide formal briefings to the staff and project sponsors.  Lead technical discussions at project review sessions and in negotiations with the project sponsor.
  • Identify opportunities for follow-on tasking for current projects; develop related briefings, specific project proposals, and work through appropriate channels to schedule presentation of these briefings and proposals to prospective customers.
  • Provide input and support to larger intra-organizational proposal development efforts.  May have some exposure to and provide input to inter-organizational technical and business development activities.
  • Be recognized within the organization in one or more areas of technical expertise.
  • Comply with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties.  Provide recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems and applicable company procedures and guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in physics or electrical, mechanical, nuclear or other engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience focusing on large power systems and power generation and distribution.  The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree focused on large power systems, power generation and distribution, and extensive nuclear propulsion plant experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • SECRET clearance

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to write and review clear, concise, and easily readable technical correspondence as well as the ability to successfully articulate in oral and written presentations is essential.  
  • Use of Microsoft Office suite programs:  Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent customer service.
