Position Summary:

This position will be responsible for a wide variety of accounting activities within the organization. Assignments include maintaining journals and ledgers, reviewing and approving transactions, collecting and evaluating data, developing recommendations and strategies for accounting projects, researching accounting issues, and working with various stakeholders to develop solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:         

Apply one’s understanding of accounting principles, concepts and practices to ensure the company’s compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 

Achieve process efficiency by developing, coordinating and maintaining control processes related to accounting operations that meet the audit standards.

Keep abreast of new developments in financial accounting and government regulations to assist in implementation of new guidelines.

Oversee certain general ledger accounts, job cost accounting and records. Recommend process improvements in accounting operations to meet changing trends and conditions.

Ensure cost and revenue transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Prepare and review journal entries related to cash accounting, purchase cards, G&A accruals, subcontractor accruals, Manual Revenue Adjustments (MRA), suspense, AP/travel corrections, and timecard corrections.

Utilize database queries and other tools to research and resolve problems related to financial databases and computer software system functionality.

Support external audit by providing requested supports and coordinating with auditors to answer critical inquiries.

Collaborate with other members of the corporate accounting team as well as other departments on various accounting / finance projects.

Performs additional ad-hoc duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in related discipline (accounting, finance) and 1-3 years of experience in a public accounting firm and/or corporate accounting.

Experience in the Government Contracting industry is a plus.  Big 4 audit experience is a plus.

Strong accounting knowledge and application of GAAP, finance, budgeting, and cost control principles

Working knowledge and understanding of Government CAS and FAR

Working knowledge of financial and accounting software applications

Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications
