Responsibilities/Qualification

 

Alion is seeking a highly talented individual with working level experience of submarine ship control systems.  This is a position working for Alion’s customer in Team Submarine, onsite at the Washington Navy Yard.  The candidate will provide direct support to the Team Submarine Ship Control Lead and his Deputy and will perform the following duties:

  • Provide direct support to the Ship Control SIT Lead and Deputy in efforts to complete the design and integration of Ship Control System (SCS) and the Hovering and Missile Compensation Control System (HMCCS).
  • Facilitate timely decisions in the review and adjudication of all design products and written correspondence by the appropriate NAVSEA technical stakeholders, Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), UK, NAVY Field Activities in accordance with Ship Specifications to meet commitment completion dates.
  • Interface with stakeholders to generate letters and packages for official release. 
  • Establish and manage SCS/HMCCS commitments.  Track and report status of commitments.  Attend weekly commitment meetings and other applicable meetings required to support Ship Control SIT Lead and Deputy.
  • Coordinates with other SITs to ensure integration interfaces are identified and resolved.  Supports the Major Area Team (MAT) Leads as issues arise in the MATs area which need technical resolution.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements for this position include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is preferred and five (5) to (10) years of related technical experience working within a DoD Program Office or Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA)
  • A Final SECRET Clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • Submarine design, production and/or operational experience a plus.
  • Ability to understand and succinctly summarize, communicate, and document technical issues.
  • Knowledge of NAVY shipboard and submarine Fly-By-Wire (FBW) systems, and DOD acquisition programs.
  • Knowledge of the NAVY correspondence manual, English grammar, spelling, and punctuation to correct errors in draft material. 
  • Professional knowledge of the Requirements Manual for Submarine FBW Ship Control Systems, NAVSEA T9044-AD-MAN-010
  • The ability to use a variety of software products (e.g. MS Office, MS Outlook) and information systems (e.g. CDMS, CITIS, SWSNET, TeamCenter)
  • Must be articulate in oral and written presentations; possess high organizational skills and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines.   Must be a self-starter, possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work directly with various government and contractor representatives to complete assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner independently or with minimal supervision. 
  • Travel about once per month to Groton/New London, CT.
