Responsibilities/Qualification

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the System Administrator is responsible for the continuous operation of servers, networks and related infrastructure supporting information systems.

Responsibilities

  • Installs new software releases, patches, updates and manages the overall configuration to ensure it is up to date and secure.  
  • Develops backup and recovery procedures and disaster recovery plans.
  • Responsible for planning, acquisition, implementation, support, tuning, and performance for central server architecture components and operating systems (web servers, application servers, database servers, update servers, etc.) to support the development, testing, and production delivery of enterprise-wide, mission-critical applications and services.
  • Works in cooperation with Engineering and Operations divisions to assess the current architecture and evolve future enterprise computing requirements. Keeping abreast of current enterprise computing disciplines; work with technology solutions providers, evaluate effective solutions and make operational recommendations to management. 
  • Additional duties include authoring standard operating procedures, training of operations personnel and tier 2 technical support. 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or related discipline, or equivalent education and experience
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification and CompTIA Linux+ Certification are preferred. Microsoft certification is also preferred.
  • Candidate must have ability to obtain certifications within six (6) months of employment.
  • Strong customer focus, including the ability to manage customer needs and multiple work priorities
  • Experience with Remedy ticketing system
  • Experience with help desk troubleshooting protocols
  • Experience resolving basic technical issues by providing scripted guidance regarding software and hardware problems
  • Experience resolving more complex technical problems through a defined escalation process
  • Experience logging and tracking inquiries using a problem management database and maintaining history records and related problem documentation
  • Experience in systems administration
  • Experience with Windows Server 2003/2008, Windows desktop operating systems XP and Windows 7
  • Experience monitoring and implementing backup procedures
  • Experience with upgrades, migrations and integration
  • Experience installing release upgrades.
  • Individual must work well independently as well as have strong team oriented skills.
  • Must hold an Active US DoD Secret clearance to begin employment.
