Responsibilities/Qualification

 

Position Summary

Under general supervision of Government customers and Alion Management, provides Systems Administration support to NSWC PCD laboratory environments onsite NSWC PCD. Responsible for the continuous operation of the client’s servers, networks and related infrastructure supporting information systems.  Installs new software releases, patches, updates and manages the overall configuration to ensure it is up to date and secure.  Develops backup and recovery procedures and plans. This is a mid-level position with great potential for career growth within an expanding team supporting NSWC PCD in Panama City, FL.

Duties and Responsibilities          

•          Assists with the daily operational maintenance, support, and upgrades for operating systems, workstations and servers.

•          Provides network environment and advanced level computing environment support.

•          Provides intrusion detection, finding and fixing unprotected vulnerabilities, and ensuring that remote access points are well secured.

•          Reviews ACAS scans to detect systems that are in need of software patching.

•          Installs new software releases and system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches, and resolves software related problems.

•          Maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity. 

•          Administers networked Windows and Linux-based workstations.

•          Investigates user problems, identify their source, determine possible solutions, test and implement solutions.

•          Elevates system high level system issues to Tier 2 support via Alloy. Track open tickets to completion

•          Installs, configure, and maintain computer systems.

•          Reviews design release documents for completeness, proper approvals and system updates, to ensure correct configuration modifications.

•          Performs software installation.

•          Troubleshoots systems and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.

•          Establishes and performs maintenance programs following company and vendor standards.

•          Ensures timely user notification of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability.

•          Investigates, recommend and install enhancements and operating procedures that optimize network availability.

•          Maintains confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network.

•          Documents network problems and resolutions for future reference. 

•          Analyzes and resolves technical problems for established networks and associated systems.

•          Plans, tests, recommends, and implements workstation hardware and software.

•          Provides network documentation, training, and guidance to computing system clients. 

•          Determines plan layout for new hardware or modifications to existing layout.

•          Works with vendors to resolve complex system and/or application problems.

•          Performs additional duties and responsibilities assigned by the Govt. sponsor or Alion Management

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree Computer Science or related discipline plus at least two years of directly related experience.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for comparable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Excellent technical and analytical skills.
  • Familiar with the principles, practices, and procedures used in systems administration.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work onsite with technical and non-technical personnel.

Must possess a solid understanding and relevant experience in the following areas:

  • IAT Level II

  • Knowledge of a range of computer networking systems and languages to include Windows.

  • Knowledge of computing and network hardware and peripheral equipment

  • Problem identification, classification and escalation as appropriate.

  • Ability to install, configure, and maintain personal computers, servers, and related hardware and software

  • Knowledge of computer security systems, applications, procedures, and techniques

  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel

  • Ability to identify and resolve computer system malfunctions and operational problems

  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Ability to provide technical training to end users

  • Ability to install CAC/PKI software and related certificates

  • Ability to learn and support new systems and applications

  • STIGS (Security Technical Implementation Guides)

Must have the following IT certifications:

  • Security+ Certification (Can be substituted by CISSP)

Must have the following courses completed (certification desired, but not required):

  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) Microsoft Windows 10 (70-697)

  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) Microsoft Windows (70-698)

Desired certifications:

  • CompTIA Linux+

  • CompTIA A+

  • CompTIA Network+

  • ISC2 CISSP

Clearance:

Active Fully Adjudicated SECRET clearance required.
