Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

A temporary position within Alion Science & Technology which prepares a college student for entry into the IT and/or Cybersecurity workforce by providing hands on experience in coordination with a student's educational discipline.  Students will gain valuable experience in Microsoft and Redhat Linux server and client operating systems, virtualization, gitops and Development, Security and Operations (DEVSECOPS) methodologies and paradigms. while supporting the Joint Staff J7 Environment Architecture Division. 

  •  The position is for college students who are pursuing a degree in IT, cybersecurity, engineering or another related discipline.
  • Assist the JSJ7 System Administrators with basic hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Assist the JSJ7 System Administrators with basic networking issues (Windows and Redhat Linux Networking, TCP/IP and UDP)
  • Assist the JSJ7 Systems Administrators in assessing cybersecurity baselines against running systems and reconciling critical findings.
  • Intern must have ability to Install, Maintain, and Upgrade computer hardware and software
  • Intern will install, configure and update Windows and RedHat Operating Systems as well as commercial and government off the shelf software. Intern will participate in Software Testing events and learn how models and simulations are employed to help train our warfighters at all levels.
  • Intern will monitor use of system resources, hard disk, CPU, and memory
  • Linux Experience is a plus.

Education and Experience:

  • 1 to 2 years of directly related experience in computer repair and configuration is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows and/or Linux operating systems.
  • Basic knowledge of IT systems and network troubleshooting      
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
  • Good writing, communication and listening skills.
  • Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be diligent, hardworking and a fast learner.
  • Desires to gain professional experience and is eager to learn.
  • Security + certification preferred but not required
