Job Description


Alion has an opening for a engineer with an acquisition background , to support an active contract with the U.S. Navy in the Washington, DC area.

  • Provide support to the Systems engineering department
  • Manage and oversee HWT APB5 program operations from development to OT
  • Manage the software approval process of developmental operation software (OPSW) and maintenance OPSW for LWT and HWT torpedoes
  • Prepare and execute environmental documentation for torpedo exercises as it required by U.S law.
  • Recommends course of action(s) for unexpected technical and programmatic issues related to RDT&E
  • Generates Acquisition documentation for Milestone Reviews
  • Performs technical planning, cost, schedule, risk, supportability and effectiveness analysis for total systems;  analyses performed at concept, design, test, evaluation and operational phases
  • Reviews and develops analytical and technical input needed in order to evaluate documentation and development of briefs to ensure accurate, timely and essential information is proved to decision makers
  • Prepares Unclassified and Classified briefs for audiences up to and including the Flag level
  • Assists the Undersea Warfare Test and Evaluation Manager as required
  • Meetings and specified Program Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
  • Sets high personal standards for performance/conduct;
  • Demonstrates ability to be a team player; works well with others; contributes positively to work/team environment while continually seeks ways to enhance contribution to the team
  • Is recognized within the organization in one or more areas of technical expertise. 
  • Complies with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. Provides recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems or applicable company procedures and guidelines.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Applies advanced technical concepts, techniques, and procedures to lead a project team in the development of technical products. Identifies and documents project functional requirements. Defines and organizes a proposed project into the tasks and activities needed to solve the problems being addressed. Schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications. Regularly provides technical guidance and oversight to lower level technical staff.


  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in mechanical engineering or other engineering disciplines) and 1 - 4 years of work related experience or a combination of both.
  • Active or Current SECRET Clearance required
  • Navy ERP knowledge and procedures are desired.
  • Proficiency with the Web, MS Office and SharePoint
  • Ability to create and deliver presentations to clients, management, and others in org.
  • Some travel may be required
  • Expert functional and technical skills as required by contract
  • Desired experience includes development of cost estimates, program status reports, and demonstrated knowledge of DoD Federal Management Regulations (FMR), and  Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and PPBE.
