Job Description

Seeking a seasoned, Systems Engineer with airworthiness and acquisition experience preferably, but not a requirement, in external wing store structural applications to help lead a newly formed but highly visible USAF technology into a program of record. Requires someone who is ambitious, is willing to assume a prominent team leadership role and commit himself or herself to this program. 

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Researches, designs, develops, and tests aircraft systems with emphasis airworthiness certifications for external wing store and pylon structures. Extensive understanding and experience with pod to aircraft integration desired.

Must be able to work closely with government and associated contractor personnel in the execution of this position. Expected to lead technical reviews, discussions and a comprehensive team in the evaluation activities of airworthiness assessment activities.

Will be called upon to assess the airworthiness of aerospace products or equipment specifications and performance requirements to aid in designs, which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods. Will also be expected to analyze project requests and proposals and engineering data to determine feasibility, producibility, cost, and production time of aerospace or aeronautical products.

Expected to direct and coordinate activities of engineering or technical staff designing, fabricating, modifying, or testing of aircraft or aerospace products. Develops design criteria for aeronautical or aerospace products or systems, including testing methods, production costs, quality standards, and completion dates.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Able to interact with government and contractor program leadership at all levels in a fast-paced environment, while remaining flexible, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism.
  • Effectively lead and plan/schedule activities of Jr. Aerospace and Flight Test Engineers
  • Past experience and familiarization with DOD 5000 and 804 series acquisition processes
  • Expected to plan and conduct experimental, environmental, operational and stress tests on models and prototypes of aircraft and aerospace systems and equipment.
  • Evaluates product data and design from inspections and reports for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, and quality standards.
  • Formulates mathematical models or other methods of computer analysis to develop, evaluate, or modify design according to customer engineering requirements.
  • Reviews performance reports and documentation from customers and field engineers, and inspect malfunctioning or damaged products to determine problem.
  • Plans and coordinates activities concerned with investigating and resolving customers' reports of technical problems with aircraft or aerospace vehicles.
  • Evaluates new technologies for application in improving design of aerospace systems. 
  • Plans, coordinates, directs, and evaluates testing of aerospace systems. 
  • Performs risk assessment of aerospace systems and generates risk mitigation plans and strategies.

Education and Experience

B.S. and/or M.S. in Systems or Aerospace Engineering required with 7-10 years experience in systems or aerospace engineer capacity. Extensive experience in airworthiness activities may allow for adjustment of work experience requirement.

Program acquisition experience and NAU certifications desired

Security Clearance

Secret clearance is required however TS/SCI is preferred
